Hiya everyone. For my course at uni i have to be vaccinated against hepatitis B because we handle human blood.

The vaccination consists of 3 shots for those of you that dont know, you have the first, then the second a month later, then the 3rd six months later. I am going today to have my second one done and i am worried about it making me v*. For the first one i was given stemetil antiemetics but my doctor will not give me anymore because he thinks i will become addicted to them! I only have 3 tablets left so i dont know if i should take them today just to be carefull, or to save them for a time i might really need them :S I did not feel any nausea last time, but i did take the tablets, i was ill for a few days after with flu like symtoms.

Has anyone here had a Hep B vaccination and can share their experience to put my mind at rest a little?

I had the vaccine and I didn't get sick at all. The only part of me that hurt was the spot they gave me the shot, I had some sort of skin reaction, but that was it. I'm sure you will be ok.

I've had the Hep B series, and as a public health nurse, I have given the vaccine to MANY patients.

With my 3rd injection, I had a mild reaction where I had a headache and body aches, but no n/v at all. Not sure if it was related to the vaccine or not, but I felt pretty yucky the following day.

I have never had a patient complain of any n/v after receiving the shot. Most people tolerate them very well. I don't think you need to take an anti-emetic unless you just REALLY WANT to. You will be just fine!

Thank you for your replies, i just had it done and i didnt even feel it, the first injection hurt a little but this one was fine. I felt a bit yucky after my first one, i had a temperature, bit achy and went hot and cold all the time but no V*. I havent taken an anti emetic because im pretty sure i will be ok, i have them at hand though just incase i get some nausea come on.

I kinda knew i would be ok, but sometimes hearing it from other people is really reassuring! Thanks!

    Don't worry hollyjean

I teach Grade 7 (12 year olds) in Ontario Canada and as part of the vaccination process, all students have to have thier Hepatitis B shots at school. This is my 4th year teaching and I have NEVER seen ANYONE even feel nauseous from the shots.

    Trust me!
