Sorry about all these questions relating to that time of the month, but I don't really have many other females I could talk to about it.

Erm, is it normal for the flow to change? What I mean is usually its heavy in the beginning once it gets going, then calms down about the 4-5th day and lessens till it stops about day 6 or 7. Well, it is day 3 and it seems to have lessened quite a bit, and well should I be concerned or is this normal? Does your flow vary sometimes like that from month to month? Its just its usually quite predictable. Maybe its nothing to worry about. I am goin to the doc finally about the other question I had a few weeks ago with it being itchy, and I could bring this up. I just don't want to seem silly I mean most likely its nothing.

I have had it vary a lot. If it never got very heavy, it could possibly be a sign that you are pregnant, but I think when that happens it is really light. Not only have I had the total flow vary, but the worst days seem to vary too. Usually the 2nd and 3rd days are my heaviest, but it has sometimes been the 1st and somethimes the 4th that were really heavy. If you are concerned, mention it to your doctor. You won't seem silly - they are doctors, that's what they are there for. When my IBS started it was really hard for me to talk to doctors about my bowel movements and stuff, but after the first time, I was more concerned about getting better and I quit worrying about looking silly.

When I was on birthcontrol, my period was moderate for 2 days, and then very light for 2 days, and then it was gone. Now that I've been off of b-control, my period is extremely heavy for the first 2 or 3 days, but then is barely there for another two days. So I suppose it just depends on your body... but I think it's rather normal.

Everyone is different to some degree - I know people who have light three day periods (some of those people are light in weight which might have an effect) and others who have 8 day periods which are quite heavy. On average I fall in between...mine last about 5 or 6 days with day 2 being the heaviest. Days 1-3 are the heaviest overall with the most pain (ow!), and then it slackens off at the end of day 3 before returning a bit more moderately on some of day 4 before tailing off altogether. So you seem very normal in terms of my own timetable!

have you lost a lot of weight lately? the doctor once told me that your period can change if you've lost too much weight.

    Hey all,

Well, its not that it changed dramatically or got light enough that I could think I was pregnant. I mean it definately was heavier yesterday like the normal heavy I'm used to. Its just today it got lighter than I'm used to at this time in the cycle. Usually my heavy days are some of day 1, day 2 and 3, then it lessens 4 and 5 to 6 when it ends. It just got lighter earlier (a day or 2) than I'm used to.

For me the first day is like really bad... heavy flow, then it kinda
slows down like you said and stops after 6 or 7 days. It is COMPLETELY
normal. Mine is the same exact way. So, think about it - that's why

    Thanks Bexcelia,

Its just that I'm used to it being heavy a day or two longer than it was this time, but maybe sometimes it doesn't always produce the same amount of blood everytime.

Mine is always heavy on days 1 and 2, nearly stops on day 3, and then comes back very lightly for days 4 and 5. I think lots of variation of flow and amount are normal.

Sorry to tell you that it'll probably start back up again. But it'll be lighter, and I never have any cramps the last couple days of my period.

Last month I had 1 week of BAD PMT, such awful hormones, then my period came and I had 1 day of awful cramps and heavy flow and then then 2 days later it was gone. I was like WTF? A whole week for that one day and then.....what? LOL Sometimes that happens. Usually I last about 5 days and it's not so heavy like it is on the first day.

Mine varies from month to month. Sometimes it's right on time,
sometimes its a week late, sometimes its heavy the whole time, light
the whole time, etc. We're young so it still isn't completely regular

Yeah, it can definitely vary! One week last year, which was an absolute blessing for me, was when I was in a school play. I had a lead role, and I knew it was that time of the month, and I *really* didn't need awful cramps while I was up on stage...yet it was like my body knew, and itturned out to bethe lightest, most pain free period I ever had, lol! Which is weird for me, because I usually have 3-4 days of hell. In the middle of it now, yeowch

Your emotional state can definitely have an effect. Stress can either bring it on earlier, or postpone it, I can't remember which. Certain foods probably have an effect too - I did some interesting research for my own benefit about what vitamins are good for cramps - apparently vitamin E and Thiamine (B1)can ease discomfort...they're found in fish, green veggies, rye, that sort of thing.

Mine is crazy sometimes too. I will spot very lightly for 1-2 days, then it will be moderately heavy for 1-2 days. Then it will slack off and just when I think it is gone completely, there it is again. I spot again the last day or two. Right now I am on day 3 and it is almost gone. I had a pelvic ultrasound this morning and for some reason it has gotten really light since then.

I don't think anything is wrong with you. Periods change all of the time and you are probably just going through one of these changing phases. It is pretty aggravating though, isn't it?

Thank you all for your responses. I know I haven't been eating a whole lot lately, maybe that affects how much blood there is? Its still going tho lighter, which is good.
