Does anyone else have this problem? Occasionally I will feel like I have a tiny piece of food stuck in my throat, but it won't go down with food or drink or come out with gargling or coughing. So I'll look in the mirror and I can see this little white lump stuck to my tonsils. I used to really freak out about this because I didn't know what it was, and my mom called it "cheesy tonsils" (gross!) and said it was just a build-up of crud on my tonsils. It's pretty gross. I'd have to get a popsicle stick or something to try to get it off, but I usually couldn't because I could feel myself starting to gag! Now I just have to wait for it to work itself out, and I try to spit it out rather than swallow it because I always wonder if it's all full of bacteria! Does this happen to anyone else or is it just because I haven't had my tonsils out???

It happens to me, and I always try to get it off too! I usually take a q-tip and try to scrape it off, sometimes I can get it off and sometimes I can't. I have no idea what it is either. Some might say its an infection, but I don't think it necessarily means that its a bacterial infection. I usually get a sore throat with them, and it goes away on its own. Try not to bother it, you might just end up irratitaing your throat more. But yes, I know exactly what your talking about, and I do the same things you do, try and scrape it off.

haha! I just had one the other day! I think I heard that they are calcium deposits or something like that. I don't think it's anything to worry about. But they are annoying as hell aren't they?

I remember getting those too. Yeah, i think it's some gross build up that the tonsils form. I was able to spit them out though. I've had my tonsils out when i was 16 (22 yrs. ago), and since then, i never had any of those again, so it proves it's a tonsil thing. I don't think they're anything to be concerned about. They're just a pain in the butt...well make that, tonsil LOL!

Tonsillolith: A tiny stone (calculus) in the tonsils. Also referred to as a tonsillith.

These stones, called tonsilloliths, are found within little pockets (crypts) in the tonsils that typically form in chronic recurrent tonsillitis and harbor bacteria.

The stones are foul-smelling. They tend to contain high quantities of sulfa. When crushed, they give off the characteristic rotten egg smell which is well known to cause bad breath.

Tonsilloliths may also give the sense of something being caught in the back of the throat. Tonsillolith: A tiny stone (calculus) in the tonsils. Also referred to as a tonsillith.

    Yuk..

In order to stay free of these boogers, it says to gargle with saltwater or mouthwash.. or get the tonsils out.

I always thought that they were an accumulation of white blood cells trying to fight off bacteria in the tonsils. Interesting though.

Normally white spots are a sign of strep throat. Sometimes strep doesn't hurt very bad but it should still be treated with antibotics. If it doesn't go away in a day or two.. make sure you call your doc!!

My friends used to call those brains!! I never got them, but they used to talk about them and how disgusting they smelled! Now I know they are called tonsilloliths! Cool!

I think you are a bit confused. while white spots can be a sign of a throat infection, we are talking about tiny little white balls that seem to come from the back of your throat. I know I get them everyone in awhile, but when I feel them I usually try to force it down with some food, because they are pretty gross to deal with.

Ive had strep throat, tonsilitis, and horrible sore throats all my life so I know what to look for when I suspect I have that. Those little balls have nothing to do with that.

    Hi!

I've gotten those things on my tonsils too. I got them some time ago when I had some kind of colds or something. I'd had some before that also but when I got two colds back to back I kept having them. I think they are really gross and that's why I try to hack them up when I feel them coming loose instead of swallowing them.

I was wondering what the heck they were when I got them but my friend said it's probably my drainage tubes from my nose to my throat getting blocked. I don't know if that's what it was but I hope I don't get them again cause they're gross and I could sometimes feel them there all the time which doesn't feel nice.
