My fear of getting sick has developed. I cant stand this any longer.
Every time I eat I think about that the food I eat might have been
    contaminated with norwalk virus.

Every day I think about that perhaps I am already sick of the food I
ate yesterday or 2 days ago (incubation period is 24-48 hours).

Recently I began to think about life and death and wondered why death
is feared so much... If you are dead you cant feel anything. But if you
are alive - and sick - you can for sure feel something! Something bad!

I know I am on the border of "mental disease" because of these suicidal
thoughts... But there really exists no cure against this phobia. I have
vomited twise in my 8 year period with emetophobia, 1 time since I knew
    the word for my phobia.

And that didnt cure my fear. Instead, every time I have vomited during
this fear, my fear developed. It got worse. It gets worse every time I
    vomit...

    so there is no cure.

there may not be a cure, but V*ing won't kill you. You can lead a wonderful life with lots of other things knowing that you may V* once in a blue moon, but there are millions of other days that are PERFECT and can be. Please don't ever think of killing yourself to get rid of this awful phobia. Don't ever let this phobia get the best of any of us. it cannot win!!!!! You are a good person and you need help managing your thoughts. You deserve to have days that are great, good and fun. Each day cannot be so bad that you think it is better to be dead.

Yes, every single day, I feel N* from thinking about V*ing, but iI focus on the good things and I can usually get around it...not away from it, but around it enough to enjoy things.

look at your family and know that they need you and love you and fear of V*ing would not be a reason to end all of this.

You have V*d 2 times in 8 years. Have you not had other days that have been good? Keep our fingers crossed and hope that someone will come up with a cure for us. We are lucky to be alive. We don't have terminal illnesses, just a fear and we can eventually conquer this.

Please get help, but know that there are so many people here to listen to you and we do care since we do understand.

I've thought of ending my life because of this Phobia but what's after death? Nothing? Heaven? Hell? Reincarnation? I believe that we were put on this earth to learn a lesson maybe the lesson we need to learn is not to be so afraid of stuff. Sure I got the low end of cards when it comes to life, I have a few mental illnesses including Bipolar/Boarderline personality and manic depression. But I chose this life for some reason and I'm going to learn my lesson.

Don't think about killing yourself over this fear! It's not worth it! I've been in and out of hospitals for suicidal thoughts and lemme tell you it's not fun there either. Like Gubba said there are good days! Look for those good days...have fun with family and friends. Don't let the phobia get the best of you! Yes I have to deal with it everyday too but I try to make the best of things...it will get better! Find help get a therapist...talk to someone close to you about your phobia...just PLEASE don't do anything irrational!

If you are coming up with actual plans and methods of suicide, then you certainly need to find help from a professional. It sounds as though you just feel there is no hope. Why not try some of the therapy and medication that is available? What have you got to lose since you are thinking about death anyway? And you might just regain your love of life again. I'm assuming that there must be some good times before this phobia that you can look back on and remember. Wouldn't you like to get back to those good times?

I don't think that you have actually attempted any cures, so I don't think you can accurately claim that no cure exists for this phobia. It is generally known on this forum that vomiting is NOT the cure for the phobia, so you shouldn't be surprised that getting sick hasn't helped you. Also, at other times, you have posted things about never getting sick again as the cure (or at least this is what I remember from your other posts). Again, that is not a cure that sage or anyone else would recommend.

Maybe you can at least reduce your level of fear somewhat with some medical help. That would at least be a step, and you could obsess less over potential sickness.

Have you tried doing exposure therapy and read the information in the treatments forum here?

And finally, though I probably shouldn't mention this, I do certainly hope that you, as an emet, haveresearched death by cyanide. Who knows what could happen if you weren't to take the proper amount? Perhaps just sickness???

O.K. I must just reemphasize and repeat my point here. I don't understand how you go from the idea that your fear developed after vomiting episodes to the idea that "there is no cure." I'm confused because once again, no one has ever said that vomiting cures emetophobia. Some people do develop emet after an episode of vomiting. In fact, I think it is quite common.

So can you explain again why you believe there is no cure?

Well, bud...I'm cured. And I have done research into treatments of this phobia for almost 2 years, working on Ph.D. thesis and a book. I can promise you HUNDREDS of people, probably THOUSANDS are cured of it all the time, all over the world.

Go to the Treatments thread and read the INFO TO GIVE YOUR DR. OR FAMILY as well as HOW TO GET PROFESSIONAL HEALTH. You can also read my story "CURED OF EMETOPHOBIA" on the Experiences thread at the top.

All is not lost! You don't really want to DIE...you just want an end to your suffering. And that IS possible. On the other side of this darkness is light and joy and freedom. Life is wonderful. It is long, and full of rich experiences, wonderful people, children, career goals...lots. Don't give up on that!

What you need is good treatment, and now. It's out there!

    All the best to you.

Maybe there exists a cure for emetophobia in Canada, USA or UK.

But I live in a totally other country far away from your. Its called
Denmark, and there simply doesn't exist any such thing as "emetofobi".
The doctors and pshychologists know about lots of other phobias, but
they have never heard about "emetophobia".

    Look:

Heres one who says that he/she suffers from emetophobia, and the answer, as in the first linies says:

Neither in the ordinary medical scientific databases or in the more
alternative databases could I successfully find a medical/pharmacologic
    treatment of emetophobia.

That stinks, but fortunately the internet is worldwide and you can find many useful resources on it. Just becareful of the validity of the texts you choose. Goodluck

Actually in the U.S., U.K., and Canada, not many doctors and therapists have heard of emetophobia either. That's why emets have to bring information to appointments to help educate them.

In sage's story about her cure, the therapist that helped her get better did not know anything about emet either.

They do have psychiatrists and therapists in Denmark, right? You can see one and explain about the phobia.

You can do the exposure therapy that is available from a link in the treatments thread. You can do that from your own home as well.

I guess if you find doctors who are in the field of helping get over a phobia you have it good. Money is the problem with some people trying to get help. Health care systems can suck big time. I haven't heard of that many being cured of this phobia, that is amazing?
Talk to your doctor even though you live in Denmark there has to be someone out there who can help. My doctor who has been a doctor before i was born (I will be 40) never heard of this phobia. I went to his office while having a panic attack and told him about this. So some doctors may not have heard of this but giving them information about it will help them learn about it. When I got my first computer about 3 years ago I went to google.com typed in vomiting phobia just to see if it is and bang I couldn't believe it and there is was. That is how I learned, this is a phobia. I felt that if I just did myself in I wouldn't have to worry about puking anymore but I knew I couldn't do it. I knew I didn't want to do it. I know how you feel, you will find a doctor, think positive!!

i know the feeling of despair dktekno, but this extreme despair will pass. my phobia is sooo severe i no longer live a life. there are well established treatments for phobias and therapists do not have to have extensive knowledge about this phobia in order to treat it. the priniciples in treating phobias is very similar for most phobias. your therapist will need to know about the phobia to some extent to help, but you will also have to help the therapist along the way, to increase their understanding, probably more than other common phobias. don't give up hope, its not a dead end.
