I have a sinus infection, and was just given the antibiotic Doxycycline. I am unfamiliar with this drug, as i was always given Zythromax for a bacterial infection. I know i NEED an antibiotic right now (infact i took my first one a few minutes ago), but i'm a little nervous about it because of the obvious...v*ing as a possible side effect. I'm aware that most, if not ALL antibiotics have THAT as one of the possible side effects, but since i never used this before... well you all know hehe!

Can anyone tell me if they've taking this without v*ing? I can handle the n* if it's not TOO bad, and also d*, as i get that enough times anyway due to IBS.

Any answer will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks and God bless!

hmmm...I've never taken doxycycline, but I have taken tetracycline which is in the same class of antibiotics and didn't have a problem with it.

    Thanks Paula!

Yes, i saw this is in the same family as Tetracycline, and i believe i took that many many years ago. About 2 hours after taking the Doxy, last night, i got such pain in my gut, but i didn't fret too much cuz it wasn't the nausea kind, and also this morning, with my 2nd dose, i had some pain again, but not quite as bad as last night...hopefully the longer i take this (cuz i gotta take 2 per day for 10 days), the less belly pain i'll feel.

    I appreciate your reply :-)

I have taken that same drug and I was fine. I angonized over it too.
Antiobiotics almost always state v$$ as a potential side effect, I
think because in studies, they have to say every side effect observed,
and some people react funny to antiobiotics and v** easily, which most
    of us don't!!

Thanks Jamie I appreciate your reply! It helps to know someone who's taken this drug and didn't have a problem with it. I asked quite a few ppl at work today if anyone ever took Doxy, and not a single person said they have! I thought that was strange since i've heard of Doxy, since i was a kid, yet no one around me has ever taken it before hehe! So you've helped ease my mind, Jamie...thank you

You're not supposed to take doxycyclene with food... or even within two hours of eating anything or drinking milk. It greatly decreases its function as an antibiotic, in fact, when you take it with food, it doesn't hardly work at all.

I don't get along with this particular one, but everyone is different. I had to take it around the same time I started having my stomach problems that lasted 2+ years (ulcers, gastroparesis) so it may not have been the med at all, but I avoid it.

Well my doctor specifically warned me that if i do not take food i will be n* and he doesnt even know i am an emet...so i took his advice....and the meds worked just fine. Also on the bottle there is a sticker that says "take with food or milk"

When i looked it up online, it did say you can take it with food, milk, OR on an empty stomach. I've been getting some mild gut pain with it, but i notice that when i take it on an empty stomach, i don't mind it as much...go figure hehe! I guess that proves how everyone is so very different.

What i feel though is that this may be too stong for me, because as i said, i have a sinus infection, and only after 2 pills, my sinuses dried up immediately, and i feel it's moving into my chest now because i have a painful DRY cough, plus my temerature is actually BELOW 98.6, and that's rare for me...it kinda bothers me because i feel that i cannot expell the infection out of my sinuses because they are too dry now, and having a temperature (which i did in the beginning) even if it's a low grade temp, means your body is fighting the infection..but now my temp is lower than normal, and i wonder if my body quit fighting!!! Weird!!
