Guys i'm so unsettled this evening,i have been trying to get back to work lately after having 2 yrs of agrophobia due to the emet and i decided to go down the lines of being a fitness instructor....i know this sounds silly but i wanted to choose a job that mean't u wouldn't be so exposed to V* or sick people....I knew that if someones got a bug or feels Sick ,the last place they want to come is a gym.....Any way i'm qualified now, which is great and at the moment i'm volunteering near a local gym....its initially for people with heart probs but has opened to the general public....Anyway on a tues we have 2 down syndrome girls come in with there careers to use the gym....they are such lovely girls always wanting to show me how good they are, which always puts a smile on my face....Today one of the girls was very sick....Apparantley she had been complaining of back ache, but they put it down to the bed she had been sleeping in as she had been on holiday in a caravan....well not long into her workout, she started to be sick....I won't go in to the ins and outs, but luckily she wasn't sick inside but the carrers asked me for some bags and bits and bobs....and also my car was parked right next to the area that she was being ill, with my sun roof open.......THis is going to sound silly now but i know people talk about particals going through the air and u can catch it that way....and of course she had been using the equipment before she was ill.....Is there anyway that i could get this if it was a bug, even thou i didn't touch the V* bags or anything....but the door was open to the gym,so u could c her being ill,i always worry that germs could travel, especially in to my car lol.....Right i'm sounding mad now!!!!!! what chance do i have of getting it if its a bug, and do down syndrome people get sick quite often for no reason!!!

some reassurance needed thanks.Sorry if i sound stupid

I have heard that v* cannot be transferred through air, just from touching something and putting it in you rmouth...also the person is not contagious until symptoms show. This means that your car could not be infected, and if you washed your hands, you are fine. I wouldn't worry. Just practice good hygiene!

    <3 Anya--

Oh and don't worry about the posting thing...I think...most of my psot have only gotten one or two replies over hours. Either I ask really tough questions, people don't have time, or someone's mad at me...I hope not the last one? But in my case, trickyvicky, I just came on this morning (6 AM) and found your post. Sorry that it's late!

hey thanks spilled milk,u don't need to apoligise for posting late,i just don't like upsetting people and as i saw other post getting replys and mine stood lonely i just wanted to check i hadn't upset anyone...so theres no need for u to apoligise!!!!

u know u said people are not contagious until the symptons show, well this lady was being sick right next to my car just up from it was a drain so my sun roof was open and it was near....althou i kept the sun roof open for the next few hrs after she had gone,i'm hoping if any germs did get in the car, they would have flown away again lol!!!!

I'm just frustrated with myself as i've been doing so well then of course this happened, and i know i can never avoid it,but it makes what u have done in the last few months mean nothing as u fell so out of control...i just hope my agrophobia doesn't set back in,i'm worried about going to the gym again as i'm sure people don't clean like we do,and of course if i go there on Fri and get my gloves out and start disenfecting everything, they are going to think i'm mad!!!

    thanks again take care vicky

I have a little girl - aged 7 who has Down's syndrome. I also run a registered charity for people who have Down's syndrome (the youngest is due to be born in January 2006 and the oldest is 68 !). Anyhow from my experience, people who have Down's syndrome don't necessarily v* more than the majority of the general public. This girl may have been in pain from her back and in my experience pain in children/adults who have DS can lead to V*. Some also have problems with regulating their temperature, so she could have got too hot. Her backache may have been period pain, or she may have had stomach ache but misread the pain and thought it was back ache. It doesn't sound to me though that it is a sv. Simply because it took too long to progress. As we all know the majority of the time V* normally occurs within a few hours of feeling bad to worse or it can suddenly appear from nowhere! I know where you are coming from though. I doubt you would have caught anything if it were a sv as she was touching things in the club b4 she was sick. Also particals in the air only travel whilst the person is being sick and you weren't around her, as for the car, i reckon you did the best thing by letting air flow around it. I don't think thought that v* would have gotten in your car, since it was the sunroof you had open. That poor girl though must have felt awful. People who have DS detest v*, some more so than us LOL.

    Hope this helps

Hey Trixie that is a big help, this girl is such an inspiration, always happy and has so much to give....makes u realize that what we have is nothing to what they have to put up with.........And def I'm sure she felt embarrassed,I'm just glad in one way that this week i didn't go around with her,as normally if I'm not busy the career always ask for help, but i had an induction to do....i really don't know how i would have coped, and then of course i felt i would have been letting the girl down with D/S if i would have needed to walk away while she was being ill....Thanks for the reply and for u,u deserve a pat on the back for being a mother to a DS and also to run a charity for such a good cause and make more of an awareness to society.

Awwww, thanks for your lovely reply - i've got tears in my eyes. You are lovely to - to give your time to work with these two girls. Not many people have a lot of patience, you obviously have. I can't be around my children when they v* and my Alice (daughter who has DS) always wants me when she's ill. I can't stand it and i really feel bad, she cries for me and i cry because i can't be near her. Anyhow the last time she was sick (May 27th - her birthday!), i held her. I wrapped her in a blanket and held her. She looked into my eyes and kept looking until she went to sleep. I felt really sad that all these years all any of my children (ihave 4) have ever wanted is me. I've made a promise now that when they are ill, i'm going to be there and not run away. I've got to, i owe it to them. Still we'll see when it happens! LOL.

    Hey, Vicky!

Don't think that anyone on this site is upset with you! I just don't always know what to reply, so I always look for you on MSN instead! Haven't seen you on in a couple days, but maybe today we can chat!

I would say you are definitely safe, there is nothing to suggest that
it was a sv, so im guessing as you were not in contact with it then you
    shall be ok!

    *hugs hope u feel better*

And congrats for getting back to work, it would have been a hard thing for you to do! congratulations

JennyKi2.Thanks for your reply, and thanks for the compliment about getting back to work........I am proud of myself but i guess i just don't give myself enough credit, which i think we all do most of the time, become hard on ourselves...I know that 6mths ago if that had happened with the girl being sick i would have ran home...so i'm proud i stayed within the situation...althou i was very anxious at times....I just have to face working on Fri at the gym and the careers don't seem to clean up like us emets do....like scrubbing the whole place lol!!! I know she used a tissue that the girl had wiped her mouth with,to then clean the sink up in the kitchen....How terrible,i might take some anti-bac spray with me and give the place a little going over just to put my mind at rest...Its funny how non emets just don't seem to worry....

anyway thanks for all the replys guys,it means alot to me!!!!

I think you did so well staying there and not fleeing like you say you would have done at one time - this is progress and you certainly deserve a pat on the back

Like the others said, I definitely think you are safe from catching anything so don't worry about that. If it will make you feel better perhaps take in a packet of those anti-bacterial wipes and give the kitchen sink a wipe.

tricky vicky, it sounds as if you already know the answer to me. I know your scared but try to bat that emet voice away that keeps asking "what if".

I think alot of emets have the rationality that if they worry excessivley about vomiting that means it won't happen. If you worry about A, it won't make keep it from happening. All you can do is talk to that emet voice in your head and let it know who the boss is. I know its not easy, but you can do it. Anytime you know you are worrying about nothing just try to tell yourself that.
