I'm trying to think through this rationally, but I needa bit of reassurance. I met with a client and his mother today. They both touched the outer doors of our offices, the door to my office, and the chairs in my office. The kid's mom mentioned during the meeting that the kid had the stomach flu on Thursday and Friday (the kid is 16). Both of them shook my hand as they left. I used Purell on my hands twice, and washed them after using the bathroom. I also put Purell on my door handle and the chair railings, and did not touch the outer doors with my hands.

So, my questions are: is he still contagious, and if so, is there any way I could have been exposed?

Rationally, I don't think so, since it was roughly 72 hours since he last had symptoms, and I haven't touched my face, but of course I'm still worried.

Unless you came in contact with his poop (sorry to be gross) I highly doubt you would catch anything. The virus is shed in the feces and v* of sick people. I doubt you came into contact with either of these, so try and relax. I'm sure you wil be fine. Besides, it may not have been a sv that he had - maybe it was food poisoning. People through "stomach flu" around for everything. On top of all this, you are right about the length of time. It has been 3 days since he was sick. I doubt he is still contagious.

The reality is you would have never ever known the boy was sick had it not been mentioned. Just imagine how many people you, and all of us, come in contact per day who have had a sv during the previous week. The numbers must be astounding. Think of all the times you overheard someone talking in the supermarket line or the at the bank, or whereever, that they had recently had a sv. Now think of all of those folks who don't announce they have been sick (which is most of the people we are near on a daily basis). The best bet for us is to keep healthy practices such as washing our hands, using Purell and keeping our hands away from our faces.

The most germy places of all are bank pens, or any public pens on chains, refrigerator doors in the supermarket, bank teller machine buttons, elevator buttons, supermarket carts, doorknobs, light switches and water faucet handles.

I think you will be okay.
