Guys i don't know if u saw my post last week saying i was ill will some kind of virus, well i had the doctor out as it affected my balance as in it was making me lightheaded.....Anyway the doc had taken my test like chest,heart,temp....and everything was fine,so he said he would take blood test, but was more sure it was my aniexty........I really felt at the time, that this wasn't possible as i have been suffering with pannic attcks and aniexty now for 5yrs and i knew that this bout of illness i had was not aniexty.....Anyway i'll get to the point now....i ran up for my test results today and i have an iron deficiency and i picked up my tabs today, well here we go again, the worry of them making me ill...as always emets check the side affects and i knew that iron tabs can make u constipated but the N* and V* word is mentioned aswell..........So the qusetion is " Has anyone here had to take iron tabs and if so,how did they affect u.......I'm not really bothered about the constipation, what i'm worried about is the N* and V* side of things........the name of the tabs are Ferrous Sulphate,i have to take 1 a day and they are 200mg.......I knew something was wrong as my tiredness in the last few weeks have been bad....even thou i have an excuse as i did a 13 day intensive course as a fitness instructor and took my final exams, which i thought first of all was the reason why i felt so out of breath and tired.......But apparantley these symptons i have been having for the last week was because i'm anaemic.....

So just some advise would be appreciated

While I was pregnant, I was given a high iron vitamin and it also said V* and N* were very possible. I had no problems, in fact, once I was no longer taking them, I started feeling worse. They made me feel so much better.

I don't think that you will have a problem and hopefully you will feel better soon. I did get a little constipated at first, but even that worked its way out. No pun intended.

    Good luck with it.

I was anemic with each of my pregnancies and after I had my last baby. No n* or v* whatsoever. I'm trying to remember what brand it was I took but it had a stool softener with it which helped the constipation. Read the label first to make sure it's ok, but take it with a little food (crackers, etc.) just to be sure.

Hey, and I'm glad you figured out what was wrong! You will feel LOADS better once your blood count is up.

    Hi Trickyvicky!

I am anemic too, and I'm taking ferrous gluconate only my pills are 311 mg, and even that amount has never affected my stomach - no n* or v* at all, though for me it did affect my intestines a bit! Um....I was nervous to start taking them too, and nothing happened! I'm guessing if you're an emet like me you have a strong stomach against n* and v*, so no worries! Also, they say that it's better to take iron with a full meal, because there's less chance then of it causing n*.I take mine at dinner, but if it does upset your stomach, it's apparently better to take it with breakfast so you don't have to sleep with it; that's what the pharmacist told me!

Hope that helps! Edited by: pianolover

Hey guys thanks for your replys they have def put my mind at rest....I think its a natural reaction to worry about the side affects when u have emet...so some great advise and reassurance from my fellow emet friends, means alot....

i shall take them tomorrow or even start them tonite as it says to avoid taking them with dairy products and i think thats becasue some of those food, absorbs the iron and it doesn't get to the system then,so it works out to be a waste of time....so hear goes....THANKS ONCE AGAIN

    vicky x
