    Hi everyone,

My dentist appointment this morning did NOT go well - another story.
But when I got back to the office, and the anasthesia began to wear
off, the pain became intense. I've had a lot of dental work done so I
am familiar with toothache - but this was excruciating.

The dds always gives me an 800MG ibuprofen in the office, which I pleasantly say thanks but no thanks to.

I took two advil (400mg) and it didn't help, so against my better
judgement, i took another one, making the total dose 600mg. Truth be
told, the help was only moderate, I am still in a great deal of pain,
but moreso, I am really worried that I am going to be n* and v* - it's
a big side effect of ibuprofen.

The additional problem is i can't even come close to chewing, so all
i've been able to eat is a banana, some vegetable broth, and two soy
yogurts. Will that be enough to protect my stomach?

I really am fearful that this dose I took is going to set me over the
edge - I routinely take 400mg and no problem (just makes me profoundly
tired) but is that third liquigel going to make me sick??

    Thank you everyone.....

    Hugs, Lewis

I don't think so...I remember when i had an absess and my dentist told me to take 8 advil at a time until he could see me on mon. am.....it didn't hurt my stomach that i remember....just try to keep something in your stomach...the banana was good and the yogurt...just something to protect it from being empty.......i hope you feel better soon.....take care..K

I've taken 800mg before and was fine. I only weigh about 100 pounds too. I think the concern with IB is the long term use. Taking a lot in the short term will be fine.

I have stomach problems, yet I can tolerate 800mg of Ibuprofen with no problem as long as I eat something with it. They prescribed that for my tension headaches and I've only taken it a few times, but it didn't make me nauseaous.

What kind of dental work did you have done?

I had a permanent crown put on where once was a temporary. The
assistant asked me if I was in pain, and I told her no, because I
thought she meant was I in pain at the moment, not does this tooth
    cause you pain ever.

Well she proceeded to yank the temp off and I have never been in so
much agony in my life. I've had root canal, fillings, multiple
extractions and never have I experienced such sudden pain. The dentist
came over quickly to get me numb and put the permanent crown on - I was
still numb in the office but as the novocaine wore off, the pain
    started to become intense.

The advil took the edge off but it is still very bad. I am going to
wait until 6:15 (4 hours after my last dose) to take it again but i am
    not hopeful.

She prescribed me tylenol 3 for the pain but I do not want to take that because it supposedly causes n*.

If it is still this bad tomorrow I will need to call her to see what's up - this doesn't seem normal for a crown replacement...

    best,

    Lewis

The first time I took ibuprofin, it did make me n*. BUT I was 9 at the
time and I had such a bad cold that I hadn't eaten all day. A doctor
advised me to make sure I didn't take it on an empty stomach and that
    would help the n*.

Since then I've taken it every time I have a headache or sore throat or
menstrul cramps or muscle pains from working out too much, and I
haven't had any problems with it.

Just make sure you have something in your stomach when you take it and you'll probably be fine.

I have taken 800 mg ibuprofen quite a few times and it has never made me even remotely sick. My GI doc tells me not to take it, so I would have to agree that it's more a long term stomach issue.. like, if you take it daily, that would cause problems. Taking it for a few days should be fine. Take it with a couple crackers.
