I was talking to my sons teacher this morning (he's in kindergarten) and one of his classmates came up to the teacher and said "My tummy hurts again." Her mom had JUST dropped her off. So I asked his teacher, what was up with her, and she said that the little girls mom told her that she was complaining of it at home this morning and saying she didnt feel well. I was like, well, what in the hell is she doing at school then, (I didnt say that to her teacher though, I just thought it.) her mom should have kept her home and kept an eye on her. The teacher also said that she is a hypochondriac too, shes always complainig about something.

Anyway ............. I just had to vent.

When I was a little kid, I complained of my stomach hurting quite frequently at school because I was either nervous or wanted to go home. I'll bet this little girl may have been doing the same!

Yeah when I was a kid my stomach hurt a lot but it was probably due to anxiety or nerves. Maybe this girl complains a lot about her stomach hurting and nothing happens. I'm sure things will be fine!

This is one of the reasons I homeschool my kids, I can't stand feeling that way, but I have to agree, kids get stomach aches all the time. My kids have been doubled over in stomach pain so many times and rarely have gotten sick, knock on wood, they can have stomach aches for so many reasons. But believe me I am right there with you, I worry to. It makes me mad when others send their kids feeling like that. When my son was going to school I would rather keep him home with me than have him feel embarressed if he got sick at school, that was my fear when I was a kid. In the three years he was in school he only got an SV once and he actually got it from a neighbor kid. I am homeschooling him and his brother for many other reasons (mainly our public school isn't great and we can't afford private, they have been learning so much and we have so much more flexibility to do so many things.) They love it and are getting their socialization from soccer, group music lessons, field trips and support group with other homeschool kids. And this way I can stay on top of handwashing and coming in contact with other kids sick. Boy do I sound controlling, this is the only area that I am though. And I think for the most part it has worked because they have pretty healthy, knock on wood.

I was that little girl in school. Everyday I complained about my stomach hurting, but it was just my emet. The little girl is probably fine, just like we always are when we say our stomaches hurt.

I asked the teacher this afternoon how the little girl was and she said that she did complain off and on during the day about her stomach hurting. She said most of the complaining was right before an activity she didnt want to do, ect .......... BUT, the teacher also said that she was a little "off" today. So I am worried about something possibly brewing with that.

We used to homeschool our children because we didnt like the public school here in our town either. Also the added benefit was that I could control who they were around, especially if someone was sick. We finally got to a point financially where we could afford private school, so we sent them back to school. I miss having them at home though, there are times when it is tempting to pull them out and homeschool again.

Hi Jennyleigh - On the few days that I am able to pick my kids up from school (I work full time), I seem to hear about something stomach related floating around and then I obssess/worry for days after. I wish I didn't have to work, but it is a blessing in a way because I don't hear this stuff every day. As you know, there have been times when I was just SURE my kids were going to get whatever stomach ailment was in the school. My point is that I cannot think of a time that a stomach virus in the school has automatically resulted in my kids getting sick. One does not equal the other. I know you will still worry because I would, but hopefully this helps a little.

Also, I am with you - I wish I could homeschool!!!

Leigh, weren't you saying that your kids were sick at the beginning of school? Or am I mixing you up with someone else? Because if they were they probably already had the same thing and are done with it.

We send our kids to private school, too! It hurts financially, but we feel better about it. Plus it's a smaller school and I feel like I can be more involved and know what is going on.

I love everything about the school experience except for the sv issue. The thing is that it really goes around all year with peaks throughout.
