    HI all,

I've been feeling really anxious since friday last week and don't know why. I've been feeling 'on the edge' and been having palpitations, which is scary- even when sleeping. What do you think could be causing this? and any suggestions as to how I could calm things down? I use my relaxation cd everynight and use deep breathing exercises and distraction but it doesn't seem to be working. I feel like my heart is working hard because its pumping so fast. Any advice? I'm worried this isn't good for my heart because I'm VERY underweight and a bit worried...

I'd be grateful if you could give me some tips for calming down, reassurance or any advice.

    Thanks. xxx

You could try bombarding yourself with calming effects, I've tried this in the past and the mixture of things does help. Have a warm, relaxing bath in the evening, make youself a cup of chamomile tea and go and chill out in your bedroom. Light some candles (makesure they are safe just incase you fall asleep), sprinkle a few drops of lavender essential oil on your pillow, and put on your relaxation cd. Do you listen to your cd through headphones or not? I ask because I find putting headphones on is better becasue it cuts out all other background noise so you concentrate solely on the cd.

Please let us know how you are doing. Hope you are feeling better soon.

You know? Me too, crazy! Been like that all week! Not so much that its worrying me, but its put me off my food a bit...you know how it gets, you lose your appettite, heart pounding, palpitations, etc. Maybe its the time of the year? Who knows!

I agree with tcsarah, just bombard yourself with relaxing things. If the same old relaxation cd isn't cutting it, then seek out some new stuff - I recently found some lovely tracks on this website - http://www.alltheseyears.net/calmingsounds.htm. Itsactually a website for rape victims... just ignore that, though - I found it last week when I was stressing, and needed some soothing music. Perhaps something new is what you need?

Go outside at night, too That helps. Stand outside and take a few slow, deep breaths, and concentrate on some beautiful images. If you keep at it, it will work.

You know what else works? Writing down your worries. When my mind is racing and I'm feeling anxious, I pick up my notebook and I write down how I'm feeling, and list the things that are on my mind, and exactly how I feel about each of them. Seeing them on paper helps you put them in perspective,so you can think about them logically- I got that technique from 'The little book of calm'! Its helped me so much!

Hope you feel better soon. Just chill ^_^Edited by: angel13

Hey all, thanks for your replies. Aguerra, I hope you're feeling better!

I think I may need a new relaxation cd, although I do listen to it with headphones, it doesn't seem to work anymore. I have a relaxing bath at night but its times when I'm not 'actively' relaxing that I feel anxious. I've been ok the past few days in terms of anxiety, not great, but bearable.

I'll check out that website! thanks. I have that book too- you just reminded me! Maybe I'll have a read now...

I've recently been dignosed with anxiety and I have found that sometimes standing in your back yard at night and taking deep breaths helps (if it's cooler out). I have also put a fan in my room, b/c I find the noise and fresh circulating air helps me feel better. Do you have an animal? I have a boxer, and I find giving him his "doggy massage" forces me to concentrate and move slowly.. and it takes my mind of of the situation.

Good luck, I hope you're able to stay calm

hey, tayda, thanks for you reply. My anxiety has been slightly better the past week. I wish i did have a back yard/garden- i think i'll be there all the time! lol! I only have a bird but when the anxiety is soooo bad, its not a good enough distraction

i hope you manage to fing a way of dealing with your anxiety and getting under control. its difficult but you will get there in time!
