Well I orignally posted this in the wrong section...doh!

Ok, last night I ate some In N' Out (a burger joint in Cali) and I got about half way thru when I felt sick. VERY SICK....well, within a minute I had to run to the bathroom and ended up v* 8 times in a row. Yea yea, I know, "OMg Rich That sucks!!"..But here's the weird part. I had no anxiety what so ever. Before , during, or after. None existed. I felt un-easy for awhile, but no anxiety.I was more pissed than anything, hell I payed 6 bucks for that meal, only to toss it all up. So I'm wondering, am I really an emet? I mean, I share tons of the same characteristics that come with it. But when it comes to actually V*, it's like there is no anxiety involved. I get more anxious thinking about it than doing it..iono. I still consider myself an emet, just a backwards, redneck, type of emet lol..I don't know..what do you guys think?

    Well this is a
tough post to read, but I'll shout out some support:

I got s* last year and the act of it was so much worse in my anticipation,
but then it also was in my memory. The actual experience was NOT that
bad.But I did find that I immediately returned to stressing out and being
worried that someone else was going to get s* from me (because my
phobia is more centered on other people rather than myself).

I think in evauating yourself as an emet, you should say on the one hand,
it was enough of a nuisance to your life that you looked up this site and
post here. On the other hand, you've really just discussed the issue in a
pretty casual way (for an emet). For me, since coming here I've both
realized how much of my thoughts are based on this sort of underlying
fear punctuated by moments of extreme panic, but I've also realized how
much more debilitated other people are by the same fears.I think if you
can speak of the situation with respect and encouragement for those who
have it the hardest, you'll find a good place to vent when you aren't
    feeling so strong.

You are just one fortunate emet I don't think there is really any need to categorize. There is so much more to you than this phobia, you are a complex human with many charactaristics one of which is a form of emetophobia. I think that everyone here has a uniqe situation pertaining to how they feel about vomiting or seeing vomit, etc. I think that's why it's great. With your ease and ability to vomit without totally freaking out, you are able to lend many of us others some great strength and advice when we are freaking.

Out of curiosity.. What about vomit/vomiting bothers you the most? Are you more concerned with others being sick? Or is it about making sure you don't get sick (although you are fine once it actually happens) ?

Anyway.. Hang in there. Bummer about the burger. My fiance is from North Hollywood and LOVES Carles jr. Do you ever eat there? That place had me s***ting blood!!! YUK!

Oh.. One more question. Did you feel fine once you vomited all those times? Or did you feel crummy for a while? Was it like 8 heaves in all? Or did it last a while? Was there substance with every heave? Was it hard to bring up newly eaten food? I guess you don't have to answer these, they are kinda sick, but it's stuff I am trying to wrap my mind around and comprehend. Thanks

Anyway.. What do I think??? I think you are one lucky dude to be able to puke and not care.. I'm jealous

So many times people tell they were V* all night and then when I ask them specifics they say that they actually only got sick once but just felt bad all night and overexaggerated. It makes me mad that they overexagerate that is why I ask specifics. I hate to know that you got food poisoning, one thing I really freak out about, since reading your post a few days ago, I am now avoiding eating out again. I am sorry that you got that sick, but am Glad you handled it so well. Were you sick all night or just at the restaurant?

thumbs up to you for V*ing and notbeing a wreck over it. I think we are all about the same with the fear and panic of the unknown...where will we be? will others see me? will I get to a toilet? how long will it last? will I be debilitated for hours from it? is it an SV or food?

Once you actually are done and feel better, you do get the euphoric feel and it is over and it wasn't as bad as you felt it would be.

Now, the trick is, in a few days, since you know it probably won't happen again for a while, will you not panic thinking about it?

Sorry for the late reply...School/work will do that to you hah.

I am more concerned for me being sick than others. I think it's more the feeling of being sick and not having a place to go v* that also freaks me out. The embarassment of v* in public would kill me. Um, the v* was very sudden and it was 8 in a row hah. Every single heave had substance. I was just pissed LOL. But yea, afterwards I felt super good. But I was so tired that I just went to bed. I was able to eat in the morning tho =)

Thanks for answering the questions so honestly, I appreciate it. I am glad you are dealing with this stuff. It could be that you are so busy that your mind doesn't have so much time to be consumed with this phobic crap. What do you think?
