could anyone explain to me what ibs, and what it stands for.. and what the effects of it are?

i was looking through some posts, and im gathering that you feel ill more than normal, although thats also a side effect of emetophobia.

i ask because well.. i've been feeling really ill lately, i wouldnt call it stress, although im going through a really tuff time in my "life" right now (hehe, i dont really have a life right now, thats the problem ).. and well.. i feel like im going to v" almost every other day, for the past month its been like it.. and somedays it gets real bad.. an example would be.. yesterday was saturday, the one day of the week i work, i felt like crap on friday, but managed to get to sleep, went to work on satruday on 9 hours of sleep (thats a fair bit for me :P), and am really tired, i end up going to sleep at 8:30pm, and wake up at 3pm on sunday.. feeling tired/under the weather. my guts been having some pains lately, and i keep having periods where i start shakeing.. (i relate them two things to v"ing).. so... it does not help..

my ideas of what this could be is...

    1) weather change, my bodys trying to get used to the changed in weather, and because its going from hot to cold, i get the shakes and my phobia kicks in the v" feeling.

    2) stress, although i dont quiet understand stress - its possable that seeing as i have a s*** life right now, and as much as i try and fix it.. it just does not seem to work.. maybe thats stress, and making me feel down.

    3) IBS , i dont really understand it .. so thats why i made this post :P

4)i dunno what eles it could be XD

and.. well.. thanks for reading - hopefully ill get more tired soon and be able to get some sleep :P

Well, I am by no means an expert, but IBS stands for irritable bowel syndrome and it is characterized by intestinal cramping with alternating problems with diarrhea and constipation, although I believe there is more to it than that.

Maybe you just had a little bug and slept it off? Think positively Good luck I would call your dr. about the shaking with the periods thing, that's a little odd. Maybe you are anemic?

That doesn't really sound like IBS to me, at least not entirely.

IBS stands for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Most people either get constipation, d*, or both.

For me, I get both. I also get a lot of gas. Certain foods irritate it. For example, I am not lactose intolerant, but if I eat a lot of dairy, especially without anything else in my stomach I get an IBS flare up. WHen that happens I feel horrible - I am in and out of the bathroom a bunch. I get really severe intestinal cramps and just feel miserable. I get n* too, but sometimes I wonder if it is because of the IBS or if it comes from anxiety over the other problems. I have been suffering with this for about 4 years. I think I have pretty much learned how to minimize it, although sometimes I do go through bad periods.

I hope this helps you. There is a lot of good information about IBS on the web. I actually pretty much diagnosed myself long before I went to the doctor. THe things I have found to reduce it are: watching the amount of dairy, caffeine, and spicy foods I eat, drinking a lot of water, eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, and keeping food in my stomach, especially in the morning. If I skip breakfast, I am doomed!

    Feel better!

well, i think if it was a little bug, it would have left me two weeks ago when i had it :P

does not seem to want to go away lol

and when i said periods, i ment as in periods of time, not as the female thing :P (im aguy ) hmmm, well.. i guess i do have intestinal cramping a fair bit, but i think thats from what i eat more than anything eles.. and not had diarrheaor constipation since i stoped chewing 3 packs ofgum a day :P

maybe its not IBS then hehe, thankyou for the fast reply and help Paula -

btw, when i said ", and i keep having periods where i start shakeing.. " - i ment sometimes during the day i start shakeing for no reason at all, and i relate that to V"ing - XD

""watching the amount of dairy, caffeine, and spicy foods I eat, drinking a lot of water, eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, and keeping food in my stomach, especially in the morning. If I skip breakfast, I am doomed!""

hehe, i kinda avoid dairy prodcuts now such as milk, ever since i lived in the states and drank a bottle every day, till one day i chugged one that i found out later had gone bad :P.

im also a caffeine addict, lots of coffee for me xD

spicy foods i love, but they sure can mess up the system, might be whats making me feel kinda ruff right now, i had same super hot chili for dinner :P

i should try and eat more fruits and veggies - normaly when we have them in the house, my younger brothers get them before i even know we had any

    and yea, breakfast rocks -

Hey...I have had IBS/D for well over 20 yrs now and I can say that it will do some very strange things to your body....also stress will do even more...i can say that i have the most very strange symptoms of anyone i know really...i have these times every month either before or after my period...i will be sick...it feels like a bug to me...i get extrememly weak...nauseas....my stomach feels real shaky and i just want to sleep for hours and hours on end...i cannot wake up in the mornings...and all i want to do is sleep...my eyes burn...this is happening while i type this....i really think it's a combination of stress/ibs....have you been to the ibs website? You should to read about it and it's symptoms....you may or may not have it. It's ibshope.com...and it's a great site. IBS is a very complex array of symptoms and it's different for each person....and i for one have had it so long i am used to it but i still hate it. So it goes along with the emet....except you have D so much that it doesn't scare you anymore to think you have a bug all the time...anyway i hope that you get to feeling better soon...and if not you need to go to a doctor to be tested. Hopefully is is just stress....and you can try to control it.....Check out that website i told you about ibs...yo will find tons of info....K

Oh sorry...I did not know you were male Sorry to tell you all about my female stuff!!!! But honestly chewing that much gum would mess anyone's digestive system up....i am glad you stopped that anyway...and yes spicy food will mess you up as well as raw veggies...dairy.....chinese....etc..etc...with IBS.....it is unfortunate...but IBS is not fun...but like I said...check the website and hopefully you will be able to tell if you have it....otherwise I would go to a gastro doc. to be tested. Good luck...K

I'm beginning to think Emet and IBS go hand in hand. I'm 38 and have had emet most of my life and IBS for about 17 years. There are so many odd symptoms of it including, lower abdominal pain (either dull or sharp), gas, bloating, D*, constipation, N*, certain food and dairy intolerences..i can go on and on. In my case, a bout of IBS usually ends in excrutiating (sp?) pain with a feeling of a sharp knife stabbing into my rectum...(forgive my bluntness, but there's no other way to describe it lol.) Sometimes the pain is so strong, i cannot sit directly on my butt because the pressure pushes upwards into the intestines. Then BOOM, it's gone...just like that! Go figure hehe!
