I know this isnt a SV. I am having these stomach pains again. Its like my stomach and my intestines hurt, like a dull ache. Im hurting some in my back too. When I went to the doctor about this, she said it was acid reflux. She gave me some Prevacid to take, which I never did. (I know, bad me) So, now I am hurting again. Should I go ahead and take a Prevacid now? Ive got a call in to my doctor, should I wait for someone at her office to call me back. What if they prescribe something different. Im hungry, but everything I eat today seems to make me hurt. The hurt starts about an hour or so after eating of drinking something. I had the reflux feeling all night last night, I had a hard time sleeping, then today, the pain started. I had sloppy joes last night, and I think I shouldnt have ..................

I wold definitely try the Prevacid. My husband took it and it worked wonders. Just to warn you though, it did give him a little d* - so don't worry if it happens to you too - it's not a sv! Feel better!

Will the Prevacid work when I take it today, or is it one of those kinds of medicines that take a few days to kick in?

Thank you both for your replies!!!

It should definitely ease the pain today, although it may take a day or two to completely go away. Zantac usually works for me in the short term, but I don't know if you can take that with Prevacid.

Zantac you can get over the counter, right? I may go get some of that.

I am hoping the docs office will call me back soon.

I would try what your doc prescribed you, and if after a few weeks it doesn't seem to do much then ask your doc about some other medicine to try. I agree with the others that its not like an antibiotic, its meant to help stomach problems not cause them.

I wanted to let you all know that I took my first dose of Prevacid. It has helped some. My doctor said I should take it in the morning, but to go ahead and take it tonight to get some relief. IF I am not any better in a few weeks, they want me to have upper GI ........ oh joy!!!! Anyone here had one of those?
I know I gotta drink that chalky contrast stuff, I had to do that when I had CT scan last summer.

Prevacid made me SO SICK...but that's one of the side effects (I don't want to scare you)...they soon switched me to Nexium which helps me A LOT. An Upper GI isn't bad I've had 3 of those. I also had to drink some nasty chalky greenish white stuff...don't even get me started as to what it looked like when it came out of me. I almost puked when I drank it so I had them stop the test. Anyway Good luck with the prevacid!

Jess-its good to read a reply from someone who has taken this med. long term. I still can not believe how much better I rested last night, I think its because I took the med. Have you had an upper GI?

Glad something is working for you. Did you take the Zantac or Prevacid?

Hi I hope this post isn't too late...anyways, I had an upper GI, years ago though, is wasn't as bad as i thought it would be....drinking the barium was pretty gross though.....i do remember the machine turning me upside down and sideways...but you just try to think of something to distractthemoment..ya know....at least your getting tested and rule out anything serious and find out what is bothering you...it's probably nothing..just stress...I just assume all my stomach problems are stress related.....probably from all the worrying i do about sv's getting hold of my kids!!!!...good luck to you...feel better soon!

I had an upper GI 3 different times and I never had a problem. The barium you drink tastes bad, but it did not make me feel bad and I had to get my gallbladder out, so I was in pretty bd shape and still did not V*. Go have it done...it makes you feel better knowing there isn't any real problem.

I also stress daily over my child having an SV, but I can't quite figure out why. He has had two this year and I guess I get nervous there are hundreds more on the way...LOL...I would love to stop thinking about it, but you all know how it is. I know the stress is what causes me to feel so bad and yet I can't stop the stress. It's an ugly vicious cycle

    On the topic of prevacid.....

My doctor gave me that when she was unsure of what was causing my stomach pain just in case. I never took it because i was afraid of v*ing and found out i have gall stones and that is what caused the pain. I have always had a bit of burning in my throat at night after eating acidic foods for dinner ever since i was pregnant 3 years ago. Now though i have it pretty bad every single night no matter what i eat. I was just wondering if i should start taking the prevacid she gave me and if it will make me sick?

I have not heard of Prevacid making people sick. I do get D* from Mylanta, but I don't know anything about Prevacid

Good luck. After my son was born I had to get my gallbladder out. it worked out fine.

So far the Prevacid is working great, I wish I had taken it when it was first prescribed for me over a month ago. It HAS NOT made me feel sick in any way!!!! Im glad I finally took it!!!!

cma- If you're worried about prevacid, ask for a prescription of omeprazole instead, it does pretty much the same thing, but has fewer possible side effects.
