Ok, now this is gonna be a girl's only related topic!

Ahem, well, ok this is kinda embarassing, but I figure maybe some of you ladies could help me out? Well, Erm do you ever get like itchy erm down there? See, I've been having this problem on and off for a few weeks here, like almost everyday at some point in the day it gets itchy or just uncomfortable feeling. Course its just rotten to feel like that. There are parts of the day though when it seems fine though. Well, I have made a doc appointment, and I couldn't get in till 2 weeks later. Maybe in that time I'll see some rhyme or reason to it! Is it normal to get like this sometimes? See, usually after my period, there will be a time frame about a week after I've ended it, it'll be kinda uncomfy down there for a few days to a week, but it's always gone away, like its "evened itself out" down there or something. I'm not too knowledgeable about this stuff, and well I am quite afraid of anything to do with ahem anyone looking "down there" so yea.I guess I was wondering if this is normal from time to time? Hmmm well firstly don't be embarrassed although hmm what I have to say might be embarrassing hehe Could it be Thrush? That involves itching, discomfort and discharge and can happen just after your period or at any other time. It's no fun let me tell ya! lol I guess it could also be bacterial vaginosis but I wouldn't know without knowing more about you. You are doing the right thing by going to the Dr because obviously they will be able to diagnose you whereas I can only offer what it might be. There are loads of reasons for itching down there. until you get to see the Dr make sure you wear loose cotten undies (oooh granny pants lol) It could be anything from thrush, to just plain irritation on your underwear to anything. I hope you do ok with the Dr, don't be embarrassed. *ahem* also I know you got married lately so umm...increased sexual contact can sometimes have that kind of effect. I'm just assuming here btw

Anyway. GP visit is a smart idea, but I wouldn't be too worried, Itt will probably be something so simple.

    Hey there -

It sounds likea yeast infection to me. I would definitely be eating lots of yogurt and using Vagisil until you can get in to see the doctor. The Vagisil is very soothing and really relieves the symptoms. Also, you may want to call and speak with the nurse. Since it is two weeks until your appointment, the doc may can just go ahead and call you in something to treat a probable yeast infection. Just be sure to let them know you will definitely be at you scheduled appointment. The gyno is no fun, but very necessary. Hope you feel better soon!

Also - for the time being - don't use any soaps or irritants down there. My doc told me to never use an antibacterial soap. Just cleanse with warm water. Sorry to be so graphic!!! Ha ha. Men sure have it easy.

    Thanks for the replies!

The thing is ahem erm there doesn't seem to be any unusual discharge or anything (sorry!) but the only thing is the itchies sometimes. I don't get it cause like right now its fine, doesn't itch at all. This is confusing! Sometimes I wish I was a guy, lol. Hmm, good thought about the soap. I use soap, I mean just a erm quick clean (Sorry again!) its just I don't know to not do some of these things like the soap, but yeah I'll do that for now. Yeah Hippychick, I was wondering if erm recent marital relations had anything to do with it as well, heh. That could be also. Man how do people talk about this stuff with docs? Ack! I'd be like turning 50 shades of red! I guess though they have heard of lots of stuff, so maybe nothing phases them anymore or something.

One good thing, I am getting over erm embarassment issues that I used to have severely with docs, well them being female helps, but sheesh! I just get real freaked that like I dunno it would hurt or something (please NO horror stories or anything like that, just positive vibes!!) I mean yea its hard enough as it is for me with this sort of stuff. I'm sure the embarassment factor is there though! Eek! I'm not as worried about that though, cause well I had some issues "up top" so yea I've been indoctrinated in embarassing things, lol! Yeesh.

    Galadriel,

You may want to try some OTC Monistat external cream to help with the itching. It is an anti-fungal, so it will help with some of the symptoms you are having. If it continues you definitely need to see a doctor about it, although 2 weeks is a little long to wait. Trust me, doctors have heard everything, so try not to be embarassed about personal issues. Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you Jess! Hopefully that will help in the meantime. The odd thing is is it isn't always bugging me, its better to be safe than sorry though with this sort of thing.

    Hey Bexcelia,

Nope I don't shave down yonder way so that wouldn't be causing it, but if I did I could see that being a problem! With the swimsuit line though, yeah that gets real aggrivating when its growing back!

Sounds like it could possibly be a yeast infection. I've had one, wasn't so bad...cleared right up with some meds.

Don't all those infections have a funky discharge though? (sorry again!) Mine looks normal. Also, most of today it has been acting fine. This is real confusing. I'm keeping tabs on how much it happens and when, so maybe some sense can be made of it! Do infections like that work on and off? I mean it'll be uncomfy (itchy burny) say for most of the morning, then later on it acts fine, then it starts up again later.Do infections do that?

Okay first of all stop saying you're sorry. We're all girls so we either
already have been trough or will sometime go through something like
this, and if there are any guys here who we're traumatizing with this
frank discussion.....well they were asking for it by coming into a
thread with a girly discussion warning in the title.

Secondly, yeast infections do usually have a discharge but I'm sure there are possible instances of exceptions.

I can't begin to guess what you have because most feminine problems
have very similar symptoms. It could be some kind of internal
infection, could be some infection on the external skin, could just be
irritation from sweat. Really the only way you're going to know for
sure is by seeing a doctor.

Is the itch like....unbearable? You say it comes and goes so it doesn't
sound like it. If that's the case then just don't worry about it too
much because you know you'll get your answers at the doctor. Just watch
out for other symptoms so that you can let the doctor know if any show
    up.

Best of luck to you. You'll be fine, I'm sure!

I'm having the same problems at the moment! I went to see my doctor (and male to boot!) the other week and he took some swab tests saying it could be thrush. (Don't feel embarassed doctors have seen it all before and examining private areas is like any other area to them!) Trouble is the tests came back ok, so I don't know what's causing it. Like you I get itching on and off, no unusual coloured or smelling discharge, although there does seem to be a bit more than usual. It gets a bit worse after sex and after I've finished my period, but that may be due to slight irritation from using tampons. I've stopped using bubble bath and anti-bacterial soap, and switched to non-perfumed and non-coloured soap, which seems to have helped a bit. I wear thongs too, which they say doesn't help, but I hate the vpl you get with ordinary knickers! Wearing tights all the time can cause problems too - the more air that can get to your crotch the better!

No the itching isn't unbearable, just annoying when its doing it.

Welp Sarah it looks like we're in the same boat! I notice sometimes after I go to the br it acts up, maybe I erm wipe too much or something? I don't get it either cause I wear cotton underwear (always have), I don't ever wear tights, I don't even use tampons! MAybe its just sometimes down there the acidity gets out of whack for a little while, then it goes back to normal? I mean after my period I get this, then its almost like it fixes itself and readjusts back to normal after awhile. I've been trying to keep track of things, so hopefully the mystery can be solved! Was it easy to get the swab test done (as in it didn't like hurt or anything? Thats what I'm worried about!) Has yours been going on and off for a few weeks too? Does it do it like say in the morning but not in the evening, then the next day it'll be fine in the morining and itchy in the evening? I hope we can both get it figured out. Edited by: Galadriel

ive been like that ately too. i noticed that if you dont wear underwear to bed, just wear baggy sweatpants or somethign to let it breathe, it helps also. maybe youre using a idfferent kind of detergent or fabric softener, or soap or something? maybe its an allergy to one of those things. check to see if anyof that has changed, and im telling you, all natural baggy sweatoants when youre sleeping will help too. if yout hink about it, its always air tight down there.

I pretty much wear underwear 24/7 so maybe that isn't helping things? You are right about it being always air tight down there! I stopped using fabric softener on the underwear too just recently as I just did a load a few days ago. Maybe the softener was different or something cause I use the machine at my dad's. My guess is it may be just something like that, because for about 2 days now its been perfectly fine. Then again my period started just a bit ago here, so maybe that has something to do with regulating the acidity and such down there.

I sleep with nothing on (I do love pyjamas but my fiance hates them, lol) so I know that's not the problem for me.

Galadriel, I didn't feel even the slightest discomfort from the swab tests. If you've ever had a smear test (I sometimes find these uncomfortable), it's nowhere near as bad as that. My problem has been going on for a few months, and it seems to be worse when I wake up in the morning or last thing at night. I would like to get it sorted but since my test results came back as normal I don't know how to fix things!

    Hey Sarah,

Nope, I've never had one of those either. Yikes! I just get afraid it would hurt and such. The smear thing just gets uncomfy, it doesn't actually hurt tho does it?

Your problem sounds like the same as mine! Mine has been going on for about the last few weeks (3-4) actually thats about a month for me too! The thing is now my period has started, and for the past few days its been fine down there, it feels fine. Do you get that too before your period? Mine also when it is uncomfortable is usually in the morning or as I go to bed. The thing is I'd feel funny going in if it had let up, but I'm also having her look at something else so it would be good even in thatcase just to bring it up cause she may have an idea as to what it is. Maybe this could help both of us if I find something out. I know its downright misreable to be feeling like that down there. I work with the public too, so its even tougher cause you have to act like everything is great! Hopefully we can crack thiscase.

Hmm I have no idea. Maybe it just gets kinda irritate up there and so acts like that? Its odd how this stuff also happens at night like that. Sometimes I get random pain, like once every so often it just kinda gets a pain like a cutting pain sort of, but its like once every blue moon or something. Like the equivilent of every once in a while getting a cramp in your side or something.

^Yeah, I've had that Galadriel! Its a little alarming, especially if you're in public, lol! As for the itching, everyone feels the need to scratch down there once in a while - look at guys, they don't care where they are, they just do it! I have the shaving issue mentioned...ughh, thats REALLY annoying!

Its hard to know when to just assume its nothing, and when it could be *something*. Anyhoo, good luck mate, I'm sure it'll get sorted, whatever it is!

Yes, it would be good to get it sorted, Galadriel! I was really itchy last night, so I put some Witch Doctor (witch hazel in gel form) down there, not actually inside the vagina tho as that doesn't actually itch - only inner vaginal lips for some strange reason (gawd I really hope the lads in this group aren't reading this, quite embarassing talk eh?!!!) - as it says that it can be used for 'personnal irritation'. It stung likeno tomorrowat first but it stopped the itching! I've been ok so far today. It's strange how it comes and goes and is in the morning or last thing at night! I've been doing a bit of hunting around on the internet, but can't find much that helps so far.

I do find theproblem isn't as bad before my period and during. It certainly sounds like we have the same sort of thing! I'll do some more research on the net and let you know if I find anything that may be helpful.

    Hey Tracey!

I too have it mostly at night/in the morning. I too had to use anti-itch stuff and it stings at first, but then relief! Lol I know I hope no guys are reading this! Ack! It sucks because when it gets going you can't sleep cause its too irritating. Its been coming back some here now that I'm on the last legs of my period, and like you it was fine a few days before it started. Hopefully we can figure something out! I too will let you know if I find anything.

As I got up this morning it was driving me nuts again... grrrr... at least the Witch Doctor offers relief! Sometimes I even wake myself up itching in my sleep, it's a real nuisance. I have read that the more youscratch the more itchy it will become as you inflamme and irritate the skin, but trying not to itch something that is so very, very itchy takes the strongest will power ever!

Here's to finding something that will get us back to normal!!!
