I'm on my own for the first time.. and I have milk that expires in two days. I don't know what it is supposed to smell like.. but I called my mom. She said to taste it. I tried three small sips.. still undecided.. so i'm throwing it out. lol

It is probably fine to drink, but if your not sure, its best to just chuck it than worry all day if you will get sick.

You know when milks off as it has a sour smell and taste and has bits that seperate when you put it in hot drinks. It looks really clumpy when it's way bad, and smells disgusting!

as a general rule (here in the UK anyway) milk should be used before the expiry date and should be kept open for a maximum of three days

we usually keep our milk in the fridge for a week after its been opened and drink it up to the expiry date. Its not going to hurt you, its only going to taste bad, and belive me, you will know it.

we've sometimes even drank it a few days past the date and never noticed any difference.

When I was in Canada I found it strange that the milk there would still taste okay after it had been open for over a week!! Here at home when I buy milk the taste changes abit after three days of opening. Whenever I drink milk I ALWAYS get someone to try it if its still okay because I don't really know if it is or not. I'm always weary when I drink milk though because of a sotry my friend told me once. She drank gone off milk and threw up because of it. But I know now that gone off milk is so obvious to spot!!

I've started buying a big carton of milk (4 pints) which lasts us for about a week - so it's open a week. So long as it smells ok I keep using it, it doesn't hurt you to drink sour milk it just doesn't taste nice. Drinking really bad milk that was all curdled I imagine wouldn't do you much good though!
