Ok, due to my V phobia, I will BEND OVER BACKWARDS to avoid being sick. This includes avoiding any and all situations where i will need anesthesia. So....what can i do to deal with this? I ask because 1) i need wisdom teeth pulled sooner than later, and since i have heard HORROR STORIES ab people vomitting, I havent even considered setting a date. And 2) i have chronic sinusitis, which hurts like a b---H! but i refuse to get the very minor procedure, that could possibly change my life and end sinus pain, for fear the anesthesia will make me sick. this all stems from my minor face surgery i had for a deviated septum. i had it TWICE and the second time, i woke up shaking for two hours because i was so scared to be sick. they gave me the anti-vomiting drug, which must have worked, but the fear of it was just as bad. So now i avoid procedures that would help me a great dea because i seriously CANNOT AND WILL NOT put myself at risk to be sick. can anyone RELATE?

I had my wisdom teeth taken out, and did not get sick from it. I also had a deviated septum fixed, and did not get sick. I was very dizzy when I woke up, and had to pee very badly, but no nausea. For the deviated septum surgery, I made the doctor put an anti-emetic in my IV. For the wisdom teeth, I don't even know what kind of anesthesia I was under. My guess is that the pain pills (Vicodin, etc), would be more likely to make you sick then getting put under. I got through the wisdom teeth thing with just Advil, although it was pretty painful.

    Hey there -

I also had my wisdom teeth pulled, and I did not v* either. I think the people I know who have had trouble with being sick after this procedure have had to had them cut out. I think that is when they have to use the heavier sedation meds.I would suggest telling your dentist that you havea bad reactionto anesthesia, and perhaps they will write you a prescription for either Phenergan or Zofran. You may want to let your primary doc know this as well. Even for a sinus surgery, they can perhaps go ahead and load this into the IV to ward off any potential nausea. Maybe this will help you.

I had my wisdom teeth out recently, like a month ago (my post is on here somewhere about it so i won't bore you w/ all the extra crap lol) anyhow I had IV sedation of Demerol and Versed and I had the doctor put anti emetic drugs in w/ it. I don't remember a thing. No nausea or vomiting! Like kel I had Advil only, no prescription pain meds and I was fortunate int hat I didnt' need them. Ice packs helped too. I did have to have 1 cut out plus I had another tooth pulled that I will get an implant in and had the bone grafting put in a long w/ everything else. you will be fine if you get it done. be sure you're comfortable w/t he doctor/dentist and that s/he knows of your emet and give you anti emetic drugs. Good luck!

HI, I had all four wisdom teeth out. The bottom two had to be cut out. I had the gas and a wicked lot of novicaine. The whole procedure was done in the oral surgerions office and I didn't have to go to the hospital. I loved the gas I was so out of it they could have done brain surgery and I wouldn't have cared worth the damn. Anyway, I did not get sick from the anesth. I took hydrocodone and didn't get sick from that either. I'm sure you'll be fine.

My sister in law recently had her thyroid out and they didn't want her to v* after the operation, so they gave her some kind of anti-v* drug in a patch form, so she could wear it for a few days after the operation. Maybe that's something you can inquire about.

    Good luck.

I've had 4 sinus surgeries, and never had problems with nausea from any of them. I always ask for compazine, there are other meds that are more powerful than that even, but compazine has always worked well for me so I use it.

I haven't had my wisdom teeth out, but I need to (no dental insurance) two of my co workers have recently and both said it was kind of fun.

When I had my wisdom teeth removed, I opted to not be put out completely (because I have also had a bad experience with anasthesia before making me nausiated) They gave me valium (which was very nice and nitrous oxide and numbed me and I was good to go. Most of my wisdom teeth were cut out, one they had to hammer and break into pieces. All the while I was fully awake and thinking it was really funny for some reason Then I went home and took ibuprofen and that was that. I did get a dry socket, which upset my tummy a little because of swallowing blood, but never got nausiated and never vomited from it.

I think that if you are up front with your physicians, they will work with you in order to make sure that you don't feel ill afterward.

I hate to be the one to say this but my mom got her wisdom teeth pulled out and she threw up but she doesn't remeber it. And a lot of people that I talked who had thier wisdom teeth pulled said that they threw up. So I am terrified especaially since my dentist says that my mouth is so tiny that I should really get them pulled. I don't care about the pain, but I'm TERRIFIED of getting sick.

I've been put under once for an Endoscopy. The first time I got an endoscopy I MADE them put me completely under or else I said I wouldn't do it. When I woke up I was fine...I was a little out of it but I was fine. I've never had my wisdom teeth taken out but my sister did. She threw up from it...but then again she's the kind of person who will throw up at the drop of a hat. I'd be worried more about the pain medication you take after it. I was on vicodin for a while and it made me a little nauseaous but that was it. Good luck with your desicion!

I was put "under" for my wisdom teeth too, and I was never s***. They usually give you an anti-emetic b/c of the side effects to the drugs.

My son has had three surgeries (just one on Wednesday) and he is four. He has never v* after waking up. Never even needed an anti-emetic.

So, hopefully, you can do this!!! The sinus thing may be related to your wisdom teeth. They are so close to your sinus', so maybe having them pulled can help that too!
