First of all, does this sound like a sv* to you? My daughter woke this morning with a high fever, was awake for a couple of hours and v*. She did it again an hour later. My husband took her to the er because we were afraid she has strep (it's going around school and she usually v* when she has strep). She doesn't. They got her to take some motrin and tylenol and her fever went away, she ate some toast for lunch, rode her bike this afternoon and everything. She even ate normal food at supper. Now, she's awake (it's about 10:30 pm here) and burning up again! No diarrhea, kept supper down, it doesn't sound like a sv*, does it?

She did the same thing a month ago, but she stayed fine the whole day and the fever didn't come back. I chalked it up to her kindergarten vaccinations.

Now I'm freaking out that she has something "wrong" with her because theycouldn't figure what was wrongat the hospital (called it a virus) and it is the second time she's had this in a month. It's just strange to keep having fevers, isn't it?And of course, to add to the mommy anxiety is the emet anxiety that she is going to v* again, that she really does have a sv*, and we will all catch it.

UGH! I hate this!!! Bless my husband's heart he got her to take tylenol (I hate to force her because i don't want her to v* it) and she kept it down and hopefully it will make her more comfortable.

Well a fever does indicate an infection somewhere. Did she complain of any pain anywhere? Stomach or anything? Maybe ear infection? A high fever can definitely make a child v* - even if the source of the fever is not stomach related. DId her fever go down after the second dose of tylenol? I hope she feels better soon!

thanks for replying sillygirl It's too soon to tell if the tylenol worked. My husband is lying down with her on our bed. She's just burning up. I thought about ear infection, too, but my husband said they really checked her outthoroughly at the ER.

She's been sick a lot this year. She had pneumonia last winter and that was sooo scary. I wonder if maybe the rapid strep came back false negative? They are culturing it, so maybe we'll know when that's done (2 days). She complained this morning of a headache and a tummyache.

    Thanks for replying so quickly.

That headache/tummyache stuff seems to be going around. I have heard of other people on this site saying their kids had it too. It could be that the strep test came back as a false negative. I have heard of that happening before.

Hang in there! It sounds like you are doing pretty well with all of this. Keep us posted as to how she is doing!

I personally think that it could still be strep...TWICE i went in for a strep swab, one time i squiggled so much that they didn't get enough swab and it was a false negative, and the other time it just was a false negative (they found out later). Hang in there!!

I took her to her pediatrician today and she re-swabbed her. It was negative and her throat looked clear. She said it is probably a virus that is going around that affects different kids differently.

She hasn't v* again--she "tried" to this morning--thought it would make her feel better. Whose kid is she, anyway? LOL. Although I'm scared silly to catch this, I've really put it out of my mind, at least when she's around. When we were coming back from the dr. today I looked at her in the rear view mirror as she rode along and she looked so small and sick. Right now my focus is to get her better and pray my sons don't catch it.

I guess I'm fortunate that my phobia doesn't really involve v* itself; just that if somebody around me v* they may be contagious and give it to me. If I find out that they aren't contagious, I'm ok. I just keep telling myself that she has a virus that makes her feel icky and she "chose" to v* and if I get it I won't v*.

So sorry you have to go through this. I am the mother of 2 and this phobia makes it extremely hard when they are v'g. Of course, you do what you need to do to care for them, but I can sympathize with your fear of "catching it" because I go through the same thing. I personally have not caught a sv from my kids. They are ages 9 and 7, and, believe me, have had their share of sv's. Just wash your hands and try to limit the contact that the other kids have with your daughter. Keep us posted, and feel free to PM me if you want to.

She seems better tonight. But do you know what my husband said? That I need to relax and that it seems like I get so stressed out when the kids are sick. ROFL!! No kidding! Where has he been the last 15 years we've been married? He said, "I don't mean to be critical, but you really need to just chill." Oh how I wish it was that easy!! Gee, I think I'm gonna chill. Yep, there we go. Everything's all better now. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

    Thanks everyone for your responses.

Unfortunately, my daughter's still sick and I'm freaking out a little. The ped said that the virus that is going around can last a while and come and go for likea week! Her fever finally went away today, but now she has diarrhea--twice and doesn't want to eat. Other than that she feels ok but says her throat hurts when she coughs.

The worst thing is that my husband is at a conference out of town overnight, and I am alone with the three kids. She keeps coughing in her sleep--kind of a weird cough--and I'm just freaking out that she's going to v*. Not to mention I of course am worried that one of the boys is going to wake up with it. Plus I was supposed to go in to work for a while today to catch up on some stuff (I only work p/t) so now I am trying to do my evals to email them to work first thing tomorrow, but I can't concentrate! I don't think I'm going to get very much sleep tonight between trying to do my work and jumping every time I hear a sound from the kids' rooms. And, since hubby's not home, I have to drive the boys to school, back to take her to dance class if she's well, back to pick the 3 yr old up from preschool, back to pick up the 7 yr old, and then to both the boys' soccer practice. What am I gonna do if she's still sick or if one of the boys gets sick in the night? I can't drive v*ing kids around. I mean, obviously the sick child wouldn't go to school, but the others would still need to.Oh I just want to run away and hide! I hate this phobia!!!!
