My oldest daughter is going on a field trip next week, to the planetarium at one of the colleges near-by. I had an awful experience involving v* when I took this same trip years ago. (My children are at the same private school I went to.) I dont want my daughter to go, but I dont want to tell her why. I dont want to scare her with what happened to me. When I went, one part of the show was to show the stars, sky, whatever, ect .......... as the days past, and when they did this, it made me sick. *************** A LITTLE GRAPHIC HERE*************** I remember having to choke it back. I was fine when they turned the lights on and everything stopped spinning!!!! I just dont want this to happen to my daughter, she is excited about the field trip. I can even go if I want to, and normally, I do, but this trip scares me. Not only because I am afraid of MY daughter v'ing, but I am afraid of other children v'ing.

Anyone been to a planetarium and wish to share their experiences?

I have gone several times as an adult. I am prone to motion sickness where I can't read in a car without feeling very ill. But the movement of the planetarium ceiling didn't make me ill. I'm not sure why that movement would have made you sick as a kid, but it sounds to me like it's an isolated incident. I don't think that you need to worry. I think that you should go ahead and let your daughter go, and I definitely wouldn't say anything to her about the sickness incident that you had. I wouldn't want to introduce preconceived negative ideas to her when she is excited about the trip.

Okay, definetly let her go and don't say a word to her about what happened to you!

There's no reason to think for sure that your daughter or any of her
classmates will get motion sick just because you did....it's all
individual. The last thing you need to do is teacher your daughter to
be an emet, and even if someone does get sick you can take comfort in
the fact that motion sickness isn't contagious so it isn't like your
daughter is going to catch it as if it were a sv.

I really can't imagine that the kids are going to feel sick from this. I mean, I guess there is a possibility, but it doesn't seem too likely. And if they did get sick like chicajojobe said, it wouldn't be contagious. You said you aren't worried about yourself getting sick, but if you were, you could just not look at the ceiling during that part.

Yeah stuff like that has happened to me. After years of never feeling
car sick and I mean NEVER even while doing things like reading in the
car, when I was in 8th grade we went on a field trip to Andersonville
and I got motion sick during it. I didn't actually v* but I felt sick.

So really who knows why things like this happen?

I heard a theory that perhaps it was because the large greyhound style
buses produce a deeper vibration then regular cars, so that might have
    been why.

I've never been to a planetarium though.

I've never heard of this happening before, so it was probably just a one-off for you. Let your daughter go, I'm sure things will be fine!

I remember going to a planetarium like that, but I can't remember feeling ill. I was pretty young, like maybe 7 or 8, and for some reason I think I vaguely remember some of the other kids joking about getting sick, but no one did. Are you planning to accompany your daughter on the trip? One of my earliest emet experiences occured on a field trip when I was 9. If my mom hadn't been a chaperone I don't know what I would have done!
