Oh man, is it really that time of year again? Shiiiit. I don't know whether or not I will get one, it depends on how bad the flu is. I probably won't though because there are other people out there who definitely would need it more than I do. Besides, I don't really fear the flu or any kind of illness... just the ones that make you v**!! And I have never puked from any cold or flu. But we'll see how it goes this year. I got one last year because I had to since I worked in a hospital... and the year before that also. The first year I had it I got REALLY sick anyways. So I always question it now. They also never know which strain of the flu will be going around. So the vaccine may not even be to fight off the flu thats going around... yeah I'm just going to stop lol. But yeah that's my reasoning.

I will not get one. I have actually never gotten a flu shot and rarely ever had the flu. I know they say it is impossible to get the flu from the shot, but it seems like most people I know that get the shot get the flu anyways - usually really soon after. One thing I am afraid about getting pregnant for is that I think they make pregnant women get flu shots and I really don't want to get one!

I voted a definite "no". I have never taken one and this year will not be any different. As a nurse, I have to advocate them for my high risk patients. But, for someone who has no major health problems, I wouldn't recommend it at all. I know this is a very controversial subject, but my opinion is based on my nursing knowledge of the vaccine.

i won't be getting the shot because i didn't think i'd need to. at my doctors they're only aiming at people with chronic chest problems and diabetes and such illnesses.

I will, I got the flu about 5 yrs ago, and thought NEVER again will I go through all this suffering when I don't have to. So since then, I've been getting flu shots, and havent gotten the flu .

I also work in the hospital so I will be required anyways.

I got the flu last year, and it was so bad I wanted to die, and I think I rather v* then get it again!! Anything that will help lessen its effects is alright by me, especially since I have been so sick, my immune system is sh**, I think it might be a god idea for me.

I will definitely get it. I get it every year. It is never a big deal. I would recommend everyone getting it.

Wow!! You guys have made me think twice now about getting the shot...i've never had influenza before, but it must really be bad if you would vomit over getting it again...wow that scares me!!!What is all the controversy about the shot anyways? Is it just the side effects, or is it not working? Hmmmm......

The controversy is about the fact that there have been shortages during
the last two flu seasons so there hasn't been enough for everyone.

Oh yup, that's right, well hopefully there will be enough for everyone this year......maybe, one day there will be a vaccine for Norovirus, gosh I hate typing that word......I mean schools and hospitals have been shutdown because of this nasty virus...it's getting out of control...you never heard of this happening years ago!!

In UK the flu shot is only really offered to people aged 65and over or if you have illnesses such aschronic heart or chest conditions, diabetes or kidney disease. If you have a lowered immune system due to having a serious illness or treament for an illness, it's recommended you have the shot, or if you work with people who would really suffer seriously from having a bout of flu.

Since I'm not in any of the above categories, I don't have the flu jab. Flu is horrible, last time I had it I felt so ill and couldn't do anything but stay in bed, I practically had to crawl to the loo when I needed it. Have to say though, I would still much rather have flu than av* bug!

The flu is NOT what makes people v*

The flu is when your muscles ache and your head is all stuffed up etc.

I dont know why so many people post things about the flu here.. flu and
norwalk/food poisoning have nothing to do with eachother. Flu shot will
do nothing to prevent you from getting a stomach virus.

But its is good to get it if you dont want the flu.

The controversy isn't due to the shortage. It is related to the contents of the vaccine. You could probably learn more about it on the CDC website. I'm not going to get into a big debate here, so you should do some research about it before you receive it.

I'm getting one b/c I work in juvenile court and parents always seem to bring 5 or 6 germy kids to every court appearance. Also, they all want to shake my hand and use my pen.

where do you see people referring the flu to the sv or food poisoning? I know the difference and seems like everyone else here does to....or maybe i'm wrong.
