You guys are going to be so annoyed its another one of the newbies!

Im an emetophob, been it all my life, like all of you i cant stand
being near anyone who is s* and i run away if anyone is! All my friends
are great with helping me out, and like many of you i havent been s*
for a very long time and would love it if it stayed that way...

Ive been reading that some of you get stuff from your Doctors for it??
What exactly is this.?? I suffer from stress irritated IBS, so when
that sets off so does the n* and i freak myself out!

I would love to see my DR about this, but think he would just tell me to FO!

    Jennyki12,

I have IBS also and it is not the best thing to have when you are emetophobic. As a matter of fact it has been pretty bad today. I have terrible stomach cramps and even though I know it is my pattern with IBS, there is always that small chance I am sick and that is enough to cause a panic attack. It is a HORRIBLE cycle. I want to know also about some medications I can take. I do take XANAX which helps a lot. It stops the panic attacks so I then can take comfort in the fact it was only a PA and not a sickness. I want to see a doctor as well. A good one though.Keep in touch.Take care. Murphy

I also have Ibs... I get pangs of nausea and feel nauseous after eating a meal but I don't usually like it get to me because I realise that whe I feel sick all of a sudden then I usually feel pain underneath my belly button, lower down my gut. So I know that the nausea is IBS related and that it will go. Having IBS ASWELL as emet is a struggle!!!
    Whatever decreaseth fear increaseth courage.

Hi, welcome to the group! If you want to see your doctor, go for it, and if he dismisses your problems he's not worthy of you asa patient so change to a better one! I once saw a doctor who told me the answer to all my problems was to have a baby!!! - He said at twenty-six I ought to be thinking of starting a family and if I had a baby to worry about I wouldn't worry about trivial things like vomiting in public!!! That doctor obviously knew nothing about mental health... needless to say I have never been back to see that doctor! I found a good doctor after that - sometimes it's necessary to 'shop around' until you find a good one, as with all professions you get some people that are very good at their job and others who stink!

Your doctor will be able to tell you about the different medications that may help. There are anti-emetic meds, anti-spasmodics, meds tohelp calm you down andsedate youand many different anti-depressants. Doctors aren't very willing to prescribe tranquillisers such as valium anymore as they are addictive.

    Anyway enough of my ramblings...

Don't feel a fool, you wouldn't even imagine some of the complaints doctors have to deal with, so our emetophobia will seemrelatively normal!!!

As soon as the doctor hears how much this phobia is effecting yor daily life s/he will know how serious this problem is and get you help. If you wanted you could take a print out from here http://www.emetophobia.org/forum/for...sp?TID=1925&am p;PN=1(under the treatments thread) along with you.

Please make an appointment for as soon as possible and let us know how it went. Good luck!

Thanks Tracey! I'm always glad when other point people to the information available to help them.

Welcome to the site, Jen. I agree with everything the others have said: take the info to your doctor, preferably leave it there and then come back later when he's read it. If he "tells you to FO" then you tell HIM to FO!
