    Default Raw Chicken Fear

    An emetophobe's best friend, right?

So I've had two close calls with chicken today that have left me a bit unsettled.

The first one was around 1:00 EST. I went to a supermarket and bought chicken. After touching the packaging, I touched the rim of my soda and then drank from it, quite possibly placing my lips where my unwashed fingers touched.

The more scary one is this one -

I prepared chicken today. I handled it, and then washed my hands. I then later bit my finger nail. Though I had washed my hands, I had NOT washed under my nails :/

My stomach's been weird all night. The discomfort is approximately 4 inches above my belly button. Sometimes it's just growling which I know is okay, but sometimes it's a sudden and sharp pain. Sometimes it's just a few flips, and sometimes I have a very unsettled feeling.

I am pretty terrified right now that I am starting to come down with something. The terrible feeling isn't the anxiety I'm used it, it's more of a tense, something is not right feeling.

My jaw keeps tensing which I am pretty sure IS anxiety, but the way I handled that chicken and then put my fingers in my mouth is absolutely frightening...

    Edit:

The sharp pain that only lasts a few seconds is happening more and more frequently now :/

    Edit:

4 hours later and the pains are gone. I am, however, getting off and on stomach aches ...

I am betting you are experiencing anxiety, and that's all it is. Hopefully you were able to sleep and are feeling better this morning. It seems very unlikely that you would catch something just from touching the package of chicken, and as far as preparing the chicken and not washing under your nails--I don't think I've ever done that. Does it involve a nail brush? I don't even own one...lol! And I have handled plenty of raw chicken without getting sick

A tip that might help you in the future--I always wipe down my shopping cart with my own wipes. I will also carry those wipes in my bag and wipe my hands with them after I touch a package of raw meat, especially chicken. And I always bag my raw meat (in one of those flimsy plastic bag things) so it doesn't touch other stuff. It is definitely overkill--but it helps me not be so anxious.

Thank you so much cheaper for your reply. I was able to sleep this morning I'm facing an upset tummy for some reason, hopefully it goes away. I'll start using the plastic bag for my chicken, that's a good idea! The sanitizer, too!
