I've always HATED taking medication. Since I remember I didn't like taking them because I was scared of the side-effects. I used to look at the leaflet you get with the medication and see if nausea and vomiting was a side-effect. It really put me off taking them. Does anyone else have the same problem when it comes to taking medication? I know people who take like 6 tablets a day for all their illnesses and I think to myself 'oh my God how could they NOT get sick from taking all of that?!'

yeh, I have a fear of taking medication for the very same reasons. it terrifies me- the thought that you're taking medication, knowing that it could make you sick. its awful. I've written a post somewhere on these forums (called side effects or something like that I think), but I was in a complete state of panic when I knew I needed the medication but needed sooo much reassuring and proding before I took them. I also had to take anti anxiety medication with it. If you need to take medication, why not ask your doctor for anti emetics? that way, you will feel assured that you will not be sick.

well I managed to pluck up the courage to take the medication I needed to take because I told myself that If I didn't take it I will most probably be sick anyway so whats the difference! I had something up with my stomach that was making me feel nauseous all the time (I still have it...) so anyway out of feeling it I would take!

I worked at a pharmacy years ago, and I would go into the books and read all the stats. Most drugs only caused n* or v* in say 1-2% of people in the study. They have to list ALL possible side effects. I have a friend who can't take anything b/c her stomach is so sensitive, she would v* if water was too warm!!!! Chances are VERY slim you will actually v* with any medication, b/c if you did, it wouldn't do any good anyway. The only time I freak is when a phamasist or dr TELLS me to take an anti-emetic with it. And that only happened after I had general anasetic (sp).

wow crystal, you take 15 TYPES OF MEDICATION EVERYDAY? I'm struggling to take just the one!How many of those medication are related to your phobia? I've never taken anti-emetics in my life... I didn't know there was such thing. I huess taking them would help my anxiousness abit but I know I'll end up relying on them as a stress reliever!

I don't take 15 meds a day....that was 'chippedaway', but I do take three a day. I will take meds when I am sick with a cold or something though.

Yes, there are anti-emetics, but be very careful with them. Once, many years ago, I used to take them to alliviate my anxiety. I forgot I had took two already in my state of panic, and took two more. I started to hallucinate. I had a friend in high school who took like 18 of them (with hash) and almost died! They are not something to take lightly. I take them if I feel REALLY sick. My grandma takes them if she has insomnia (they knock you on your ass!).

    Anyway, that's that one!

That was me. None of them are related to emet. I don't take any anti depressants or any anti anxiety type meds. My emet is pretty odd, it's not a constant thing like a lot of you, just when I'm sick. I have a lot of stomach problems and so that makes the fear worse for me. When I'm feeling okay though, I don't obsess about it or anything.

Chipped away...how old are you? That must be so difficult, to be on those schedules and all those meds! But you seem to be doing great, and I think that is wonderful!

Crystal- I'm 22, and doing fairly well! Thanks.

Hel- Stick with trying to find out what's wrong. It took me almost a year to get the gastroparesis diagnosed (slow stomach emptying, causes TONS of nausea) and while it's not a harmful disease, it does make you feel sick. There is a med to treat it and I do a lot better. So, don't give up!

Lots! Extreme stomach pain. The nausea is more troublesome, but the pain was definitely there. The pain is gone for the most part now though, a couple years later.

I just started taking medication with the same fear that you seem to have.

I took one and had a bad side affect (feelings of nausea), but now, I take cipramil, which is awesome, and it takes the edge off it so much.

Goodluck, if you want any help PM me.

My dosage of anti-depressants was upped today, a bit afraid of side effects, but looking forward to the fact that they might help me too
