tomorrow is my first day as a student teacher. I am so so scared. I wanted to do this before i started my degree, since i was 12 in fact. I applied to do this postgrad course a year ago, while doing my finals i considered pulling out so many times as Im so scared that being around the children i will catch an sv or something.

In the morning i have to go to a primary school. Tonight my mum cooked me chicken for dinner, i am scared as it didnt look right. It tasted ok but was kind of greyish and had a bit of goo on one end. She said it was just overcooked but im worried it was off and im going to v* and have to miss my first day.

Im so worried i dont know what to do, i havent felt this not in control of my anxiety in ages

Nothing will interfere with the first day. You're just afraid, but that doesn't mean that you won't be able to go in there and do what you are supposed to do. It's o.k. to be afraid, but you will adjust over time. I'm sure that you will come to love this job, since it is what you have planned for.

    Hey,

If it helps you feel better, I work in a school too, and in the two years I've worked there I have never caught any bug (except a cold). I've found its amazing how you are able to cope and stay calm when kids don't feel good, but MOST IMPORTANT it (kids feeling sick) happens so infrequently that most days I don't even think of it!!

Teaching is my dream, too. You can't guarantee thatit will be all easybut you can guarantee you'll regret it if you don't go for it!! Good luck!

P.S. I ate RAW chicken accidentally yesterday, and I'm fine, FINE!! Yay!!

I don't know if this makes you feel any better but I know for a lot of
emets there is a fear of being somewhere that you aren't supposed to
leave so if you do get sick there will be people around to see you.

If that's the case for you I know that every student teacher I've ever
seen only sat in the corner and took notes on their first day. That way
you could easily slip away if you felt the need because the teacher is
too busy concentrating on the lessons to worry immediately about where
you're going and the students barely care that you're there at all so
it'll be easy to slip out without any of them taking notice since they
will be concentrating on class or zoning out.

Best of luck to you, I'm sure you'll be fine.

I think it's just first day nerves, everbody gets that even non-emets who don't have all our anxiety issues! It wouldn't be natural to be starting a new job and not feel at least a little nervous.

The night before I started my last job I got myself so worked up and anxious about everything I actually spend all night v*ing. I had no sleep and felt like absolute s***, but I went in anyway. As soon as I got there I settled down, the anxiety nausea vanished and at the end of the day I felt so proud that I'd gone through with it despite suffering so much the previous night. The anticipation of the event is always worse than the actual event! I worked myself up into such a nervous frenzy and when I got there things were fine. I'm sure you'll be just fine too.

Good luck, let us know how your first day went!

Hope it went great, Nicki! You know I'm a teacher, too, so feel free to IM, PM, or e-mail any time you want to talk!

My first day was good. I was so tempted to not go and stay at my old job as I was so scared but I went and actually enjoyed it. The day went really well.

So, on the way home, I drop into work to hand back my keys, and guess what, the person i was working with on saturday has an sv (well is complaining of terrible stomach cramps), he had them on saturday but they went but he has them again now. Im worried about catching that now.....

    grrr i hate this
