just a question to my fellow emet mommies... when your kids get a sv, do you usually get it too? My little one is only six months and i know it's going to happen sooner or later and I figure there is no way around me not getting it considering I change the little mans diaper...I mean I wash my hands of course, but just thought I would ask!

    Thanks in advance!!!

Hi, personally I think it's easier to catch it from small babies and infants than older kids....only b/c you are in such close contact with the smaller ones....I know as mine were growing up and they were sick...I only caught a few sv's from them....and now that they are older...15 and 12 they don't seem to get them too often...best of luck to you though...enjoy your precious baby while he's young...Kate

I have three kids and have had a sv three times during their lives, so if I do the math, (my oldest is 7) I've gotten it maybe 25% of the time they have. The thing is--I NEVER v* with it. One time I was the one to bring it home from work and my poor babies caught it from me. And, if I think about it, I didn't get it until after my third was born--almost a year old actually.

I worried so much when I had kids--when I was pg about morning sickness, and then once my first was born about him being s*. The first time he was, it was almost like I forgot I was emet. I just took care of my baby. Then that night I freaked.

For us emets, it's a lot about control (at least for me), so something that gets me through it is to feel prepared. I have a pan (one of those hospital tubs) under my bathroom sink at the ready with white cloth diapers (for cleaning up and they can be washed in bleach) and a big thing of lysol. When my kids are s*, I promptly put anything they have soiled in the wash on hot, clean them up, and then wash my hands very well. We have two couches, so my child lays on one and I go on the other (if it's night) and I have all my supplies ready. That way I am right close to them and can have the TV on for me as a distraction and to keep me awake as one thing I hate is for *it* to happen to the kid when I am fast asleep andthe soundto wake me up.

Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is I get through it. It isn't fun, but I do. And, of course, when sv* start to go around I worry. That's almost worse--sometimes I'm actually glad when my kids come down with it because they usually just get it once a season and I know we are done with it!! And after I hit my "safe point"--a week since the last person had it, I almost get a crazy euphoric feeling because we don't have to worry about it again for a while! And then I eat normal again--so usually I am soo happy if we've gotten past it before the December holidays! LOL!

I haven't caught it from my kids knock on wood. It is hard, Tyler was sick the other night, he cleaned some of it up and I did the rest, believe me its freak out time when it happens, I hide my fear from him, I go in my room and pace and cry if need to. As your kids become older I think some times it is easier they hit the pail or toilet (most of the time).

I raised 3 kids who were sick a fair few times, and I never caught anything. I didn't go nuts cleaning nor did I wash my hands any more than usual.

Shereerenee - I wonder (and fear) the same thing. I love having kids, except, I don't know how to handle the s--- thing. It depresses me that I can't be a "complete" father because of this fear. Last night my son was sick and while I did better than I would have expected, I was completely freaking and still am now almost 24 hours later. Somedays I wonder why I ever had kids and then others I know that I couldn't live without them. I just wish there were a way past this.

My kids are sick ALL THE TIME!! And I have only caught it once, and then I got the runs, thank goodness!! I do wash my hands and spray Lysol quite a bit, unlike Sage!!! I'm hoping my 3 month old son has a stronger stomach than his sisters do!!

I have a 3 1/2 year old and he has had the SV three times this year. I fear it worse than anything, but I too feel so happy once we are a week past it and my husband and I have not gotten it. I do get the runs a lot from stressing over it and I hate going out in public places one the SV is going around a lot. I do freak out also when my son is sick, but I will say this, it is easier at that time and cleaning it up, but later, I go crazy worrying about catching it.
