Treatment in general doesn't work for everyone, because not everyone is committed to the process, and willing to put in the hard work. It's painful and emotional. You have to be willing to tolerate a certain amount of anxiety (not panic...not scared stiff, but anxiety). Many, many people aren't.
Treatment success also depends on the relationship between the therapist and client. If you have a therapist who is a) an idiot or b) you just can't relate to, then treatment won't work.
Some others are unable (or unwilling) to invest the time and money to keep treatment up for the length of time it takes to get good results. The worse you suffer from the phobia, and the worse your mental/emotional health is in general, the longer treatment takes.
But basically if you have the time and money, have screened for a good therapist and are happy with them, and are willing to commit to the work of therapy then YES exposure therapy will work. It's a bit like asking ifantibiotics will curebacterialinfectionsin everyone. Pretty much, ya. That's the treatment.Edited by: sage
