I know I have been missing in action for awhile but I have been so busy. I have been reading posts a little more frequently.

Madison was in the hospital this past Wednesday through Friday. About 2am Wednesday morning she was really fussy like her belly hurt. She had pooped which is unusual for her in the middle of the night. It was really soft. She had a temp of 101.6. Well the poops continued and the fever did too. Then it started to get bloody and mucousy. I called the ped and he said take her to the ER. So I did and they kept her. Her fever stayed at 103 for about 12 hours. Motrin brough it down a little.

Stool cultures came back yesterday and was positive for Campylobactor. I have no idea how she got this but it is REAL contagious. I am so meticulous with cooking and cleaning.

We just got a Pug puppy and that is the only thing I can think of.

She and I are on Zithromax...I have been the one changing her diapers. It can be shed in her poop for up to 7 weeks!

For those who dont know what it is...simply put bacterial gastroenteritis. Here is some info on it. Thanks for reading.

Aww, poor thing! You seem so calm tho bravo! I hope she feels better soon! Good that you are on the antibiotics too, that probably helps not to panic. Please keep us posted on how she's doing!

    Debbie,

How areyou? I have been wondering how things are going for you. I am sorry to hear about Madison. Are the antibiotics helping her to feel better at least? Hard to say how she picked it up. Did the ER have any input about that? I am sure that even though it is contagious, you and your family will be fine. You seem to have very clean habits and being a nurse, know how to keep things clean. Would maybe getting some disposable surgical gloves help make you feel not so nervous about catching it.

I think I have it. My stomach has been crampy and I have had a couple of bout of d*. I knew I would get it. They had Madison on contact isolation precautions in the hospital and I stayed with her the entire time. I changed all those diapers. She is feeling better but still has bouts of stomach cramping and fussiness. This stuff can last awhile. I would not be surprised if my whole family got it.

I am calm about it...trying to be anyway. I thought she was going to v* earlier and anxiety kinda went up but she is my sweetie and I will take care of her no matter what!

I cried when they said they had to admit her...emotional me.

Her pediatrician put me on Zithromax too. That stuff makes me feel so blah!

Who would have thought that she would get a BACTERIAL gastroenteritis! I worry about the virusesEdited by: madisonsmom

You might have it, but your d* and stomach pains might also be from the antibiotics.

That sometimes happens sometimes when it kills off the good bacteria in your intestines along with the bad.

Even if you do have it you seem to be doing very well. I'd be a nut
case. Plus, you're on antibiotics so atleast you're already on your way
    to getting it cleared up.

    Good luck to you.

I am really sorry that you and your sweetie are having to go through this. Sounds like you are really doing a great job hanging in there, though. I wish there was something I could do to help make this easier on you. Does this bacteria usually just have fever, cramping and diarrhea? Or, could there be vomiting, too. I guess I could check the thread you posted, but it seems sometimes vomiting is just always listed as a possible symptom of illness, you know?

Well, hang in there. You're doing a great job.

She did v* last night on my husband and love seat. I did ok...he wiped stuff off and I put her in the tub. She was acting fine after that. She ate chicken nuggets and I think they were a little to greasy for her. I have put her the BRAT diet and she seems to be tolerating it well.

    This infection can cause v*.

She has done nothing but sleep today. We'll see. I feel okay today. the puppy goes to the vet tomorrow to be checked out.

Thanks for all your kind words
