I have a pet snake and I was wondering if there was any way I could contract salmonella from him? I always wash my hands after handling him but I have cuts on my hands and sometimes he slithers over them. Can salmonella enter through a healing wound?

Um....yes, snakes can cause salmonella. But I doubt you will. I think the people that get salmonella fom that get it because they don't wash their hands and then put them in their mouth or eat with their hands. I'm, no expert, but as long as you are washing your hands before and after touching it, I'm sure you will be fine. Take care!

Hiya, Yes Snakes and other reptiles can carry/cause salmonella. Itsvital to just ensure hands are thoroughly washed after handling them, hot water + antibacterial liquid soap. I am not sure about salmonella entering the body through open wounds, although i think its very unlikely this could happen.
