I was wondering if it's possible that I picked up a bug. For the past four or five nights I've had reflux. It was VERY bad last night, probably because I bought Pepcid AC and thought it would be okay to eat. So I had a piece of lasanga and a can of coke which was probablya bad move. I didn't have really close to bed time either. Anyways, my stomach was so acidic. I had little hiccups and my spit even tasted bitter from acid. I was nauseous too. A couple times I almost v-ed. ANYWAYS, today I woke up and I have a tiny tummy ache and gas. Is there some type of bug or bacteria that I could have picked up that could be causing this? I had heartburn alot before but it was always cured by Rolaids. And now I have this reflux that just came out of nowhere. Any idea what this all could be? Is it just reflux or could it have been a bug or bacteria? I'm kind of hoping it's a bug or bacteria because I dont want this reflux crap all my life. Well, hopefully someone can help me out.

    mystikal,

I am no expert but it sounds to me like you may have reflux. I suffer from that and was recently diagnosed with an ulcer. I have heartburn a lot and tend to have a really acidic stomach most of the time.

Here are a few suggestions that sometimes work for me:

    1. Eat bland foods - unfortunately the lasagna has an acidic tomato sauce and the soda has caffeine - not very good for acidic tummies!

    2. Drink milk or eat yogurt - they tend to coat your stomach

    3. Eat Bread - that can help soak up some of the acid

    4. Avoid really greasy foods if you can - can be an irritant

    5. Try Mylanta liquid if you can get it - that can also coat your belly a little more than the chewable tablets do.

I hope you feel better sweetie - hang in there. If you don't feel better soon - I would go and see a doctor. If you have a hyperacidic stomach (like I do) you may need something stronger to calm it down (I take prescription Prevacid right now for my ulcer). Don't forget that stress can aggrivate a hyperacidic stomach big time so do what you can to relax as well (I know that is hard to do sometimes!)

    I hope that helps!

    Take care,

I am sure that your stomach is just being wierd. Some people can get this and have no underlying problems at all. The relux can cause a little nausea and it isn't unusual to burp up with it. It doesn't mean that you are going to be sick though. Just keep the foods bland and light like Jessica said. You may want to break down your meals into about 6 different ones as well instead of 3 big ones. It isn't as hard on the stomach while it is getting itself back into the swing of things.
It doesn't taka a lot to get a stomach working overtime. Acidy foods, a lot of soda, spicy foods, stress, eating too fast, too much, not chewing enough. Who knows but don't worry yourself about it hun.
Keep your chin up and I hope you are feeling a lot better soon.

    Thanks for the replies.

I find this whole situation to be very weird. I used to eat spicy foods my whole life and I used to get a tiny bit of heartburn, not really reflux, and it was controlled by a rolaid. Then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, I'm getting reflux thats here just abouttwenty fourhours a day. This happened when I increased my medicine and when I was dieting and not eating very much. For some reason, and this is going to sound dumb, I've been prayng a lot since I've had this and I'm really stressed, and today I woke up feeling like it's all going to be okay. Part of me, well most of me, feels like this isn't something serious, like acid reflux disease, it's just something that I caught and it will go away just as quickly as it came. Is it weird to feel that way?

I probably do have it though. I had this reflux really bad last night and tonight I woke up with a sore throat. I still have a bad sore throat. And my mom suffers from this very bad also. She is on Prevacid. I'll probably be on it soon enough. I'm really scared of what the future holds for me. My mom gets reflux so bad that she v's stomach acid. I can't believe I may have inherited her bad stomach. Thats bad for anybody but especially bad for an emet.

Well, I'm off. Until I get Prevacid do you think Prilosec OTC would work? I tried Pepcid AC and it did nothing.

I am no expert, but I agree with Jessica that you may have reflux. Like, if you get this a lot, it isa good chance that you do. Just follow Jessica's advice and see if it helps. If you still feel bad and this happens a lot, see your doctor. I think that Pepcid AC is mostly for people that have heartburn when they eat spicy foods or foods that trigger it, but I do not think that it would help much with long-term cid reflux, but again....I probably do not know what I'm talking about. In fact, I really don't know, but that's just why I think it did nothing.

    Take care,

I have GERD and I get that kind of thing a lot but NEVER
have v'ed from it. Its a PITA for sure but.... not the end of the world
either. Try not to eat anything too late at night. You will have
    less symptoms that way.
