I am seriously sick and tired of everyone's ignorance
regarding my emet. I also have a friend who unintentionally tells me
about her v stories. I say unintentionally only because I know she is a
very forgetful person and she always apologizes after I tell her to
stop. However if she knew I had a phobia of v, then maybe she would
remember. However this is what I am seriously thinking of doing. I am
going to get my family and some of my close friends together and do a
speech on emet, thats right. I plan to print off pages from websites
regarding emet and make copies of them and pass them around, and make a
speech about it. This will be a test too of who is really my friend and
who isnt. If they find it rediculous then they arent really friends
right? I am nervous as hell about doing this but I have to do something
to make them wake up. Any input on this idea is welcome because I dont
even know where and how to start! Thanks

Well i think its a really good idea! It will show who will stick by you in the tough times. And its better that they know because then you wont be creeping around them to hide it. What I would recommend is just say to them "this is what i have accept it or leave it". Dont say it in such a serious tone as if you're expecting them to go. Just say it calmly and they will understand. I do hope everrything goes well and lets me know how it does

    Best Wishes, Chris

    Thats an excellent idea.

Most of my family knows about my emetophobia but they still show no respect for my fear. Hopefully it will be different for your family.

Makesure the speech is nice and long--just to make them suffer the way you are suffering. Hope all goes well hun. ((hugs))

That's a great idea! That seems like it would really help people get aware of our phobia. Um... Here's my advice on where to start...

    1) Print out web pages that really seem like they would imform people on it. (Of course!!)

    2) Plan more than one little meeting. I wouldn't try to drum it into their heads all at one time, but this is what I would do, so you do not have to take any of my advice. I'd have one meeting passing out web pages and information and hving them ask questions on that information. Then, another meeting, I'd give the speech and answer any other questions they have. It is all up to you. If this is nota good idea for it, please do not take my advice.

    3) Stay calm and speak with confidence. Do not get nervous. If anyone still does not understand Emetophobia completely when you are done, don't get frustrated (Non-emets often have a hard time understanding it). It is okay to get a little frustrated, but don't get too upset.

So, it is up to you what you want to do. If you decide to go through with having this meeting, I hope it goes well!!!Edited by: youngemet222

Thanks! Again I have no idea when I am going to do this.
I would like my SIL there, sort of a test thing for her. However I cant
do it until she is over her morning sickness. If she is sick all 9
months then I have no other choice but to wait til March

Hey Miriam, I did the copies from the web and here and passed them out to everyone who was clueless or knew but didn't know really, and I got such great feedback from it, my cousin's exact words were "Now everything fits, now I understand", it was the best thing I could have done for myself and the others, and my other cousin thanked me for doing it, she said she found it interesting and that now things made sense, so go for it girl!!!!!

Good luck and let me know how it goes!

I can't email it to you because I printed it all out and wrote some stuff of my own, but if you are really serious about wanting a copy to use or to get an idea I'm more than willing to mail you one, it would be my pleasure to help out as long as you don't laugh at my little inserts!!!

If you do want, email me your address and I'll send it out ASAP

    [email protected]

Just please put an "emet" subject because I get alot of junk and I'm afraid I might not recognize you and delete your email!!!

Great idea - one that I've been trying to promote for a long time. I hope you saw my piece on the top of the "Treatments" thread called "Information for Professionals". I spent a lot of time on it, but no one seems to be able to find it here. When I'm away, nobody ever mentions it to the newbies who ask this specific question.

Perhaps you guys can let me know if that's cuz:

    a) you didn't know about the information

    b) you knew, but didn't know where to find it on this site

    c) you don't find it to be helpful information

(I may be able to fix either of the three - but need to know which it is first)

    Thanks guys
