I don't know about you but sometimes being an emet and having to deal with everything that comes with it can be overwhelming. I know when I'm faced with the threat of V* my mind can on focus is on escaping from that threat. Outside of the panic I like to see clearly and focus on living rather than worrying. Its hard but thats how I try to deal with the almost constant fear. So I thought it might be nice to have a place where we can come when things get us down a bit and take stock of what life is about.

Maybe post song lyrics or poems or even quotes that are inspiring to us so that others may benefit from them.

Here is one poem that I turn to when I have a panic attack to leet me know that its nota complete set back - and that I may have taken a step back but I'm still a lot further along the path to recovery than I was...

Bend in the Road

Sometimes wecome to life's crossroads

And view what we think is the end,

But God has much a wider vision

And He knows it is only a bend-

The road will go on a nd get smoother

And after we've stopped for a rest,

The path that lies hidden beyond us

Is often the one that is best.

So rest and relax and grow stronger,

Let go and share your load

And have faith in a brighter tomorrow-

You have come to a bend in the road.

Chloe... this is an awesome idea. I personally am a HUGE fan of quotes, lyricsand poems. I won't post them all because that would take up the whole thread, but here are some that really mean a lot to me

*Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do... but to keep it together when the rest of the world would understand your falling apart... THAT is true strength.* Unknown

~Don't Laugh at me, don't call me names, don't get your pleasure from my pain, in God's eyes we're all the same, someday we'll all have perfect wings... don't laugh at me.~ Mark Wills

*Come with me and let's go wander, far beyond the wild blue yonder, out where the stars roam free. Though the road is far from breezy, stick with me I'll make it easy, you can depend on me. Yeah, there's a long road before us, and it's a hard road indeed, but darlin' I swear, I'll get us there... wherever the trail may lead!* Tim McGraw (Fromthe movie,Home on The Range)

~I look at you and I'm home... I don't want that to go away~ Dorie in Finding Nemo

*Please remember, even if we never speak again after tonight that I am forever changed by who you are and what you've meant to me.* Chasing Amy

~Another day has almost come and gone. I can't imagine what else could go wrong. Sometimes I'd like to hideaway somewhere and lock the door, a single battle lost, but not the war... cause tomorrow's another day and I'm thirsty anyway, so bring on the rain.~ Jo Dee Messina and Tim McGraw

I can share more... but that's it for now... I just really love all of those

Just remembered this one- I think its such a lovely way of expressing laughter and happiness

A smile starts on the lips, A grin spreads to the eyes, A chuckle comes from the belly; But a good laugh bursts forth from the soul, Overflows, and bubbles all around.

" No matter what you do; there will always be critics"

" The power to believe in yourself is the power to change fate"

"friends are God's way of apologizing for our families"

"when one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones open for us"

" the problem is not the problem, the problem is your attitude about the problem"

"when you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot, and hang on" Thomas Jefferson

"worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but gets you nowhere"

"our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising up everytime we fall"

"many people would sooner die than think, infact they do"

just some quotes for ya =) will have some more poems and stuff rolling here as they cross my path...

When your dreams start to seem so impossible,
when roadblocks are all you can see,
look beyond all the problems that face you
and focus on possibilities.

Don't limit your thoughts to the present
Or solutions you have learned from the past.
Remember to keep looking forward -
You may find the answer at last.

It is you who determines your future;
How your journey through tomorrow will be.
To fill all your days with adventure,
Dare to see what no one else dares to see.

So never let obstacles stop you
Or keep you from doing your part.
Have faith that your dreams are all possible,
If you truly believe in your heart.

Often people attempt to live their lives backwards:
They try to HAVE more things or more money,
in order to DO more of what they want,
So they will BE happier.

The way it actually works is the reverse.
You must first BE who you really are,
then DO what you need to do,
In order to HAVE what you want.

Hey... this is a poem that I read once somewhere and it touched my heart so very much... I wanted to share it. It's sad... but it's so sweet!

"The Grave No One Tended"

The day was lovely as I strolled along, peering at stones on the way,
And that's when I saw it, that pitiful cross that looked splintered and faded away.
With flowers in hand to tend my dad's grave I knew I must hurry along,
But I couldn't help but linger awhile, at that cross that just didn't belong.
The date on the bottom confirmed the suspicion of what I already knew,
A child lay there 'neath that horrible cross and it's faded old color of blue.
What selfish parents they must have been to bury their child all alone,
without flowers or candles to light up the night, and not even a simple headstone.
I looked even closer at that awful cross that was now nearly splintered away,
and there on the backwere inscribed the words, that changed me forever that day.
"This cross isn't grand but I carved it by hand so you'll know son just how much I care.
It's the color of blue to remind me of you and how painful it is I'm not there.
That it's you who is gone and it's me living on while your young life has come to an end.
And I'm left all alone with no place to call home and a grave that's too painful to tend."
Tears stunned my eyes as I looked all around at monuments that cross put to shame,
And I shared with those parents the horrible loss that brought them such terrible pain.
And all of the tombstones, some taller than me suddenly seemed small in a way,
Next to that cross that wascarved with such love and the flowers I planted that day.
*Author Unknown*

I just thought that was so sweet and beautiful. It proves that you cannot judge a book by it's cover... there are things in life that are so much more meaningful that we could ever imagine.

Here are two more poems that I really like... heck I could go on all day

This one has really helped me out in the past... it really makes sense.
"God didn't promise days without pain, joy without sorrow or sun without rain.
But God did promise strength for the day, comfort for tears and a light for the way.
And to those who believe in His kingdom of love,
He answers their prayers with His peach from above."
~Unknown~
And then this one just really makes you think... I thought it was really good.
The Dummy ~ By. Michael Mack
*In that forgotten part of town, where wasted hopes and dreams abound,
A wrinkled man with life near end, in hopes to have at least one friend,
Fashioned bits of wood and things and made a dummy run by strings.

He sat alone for hours on end, conversing with his only friend,
And found delight within the fact that he controlled it's every act.
He told it how he never had, a chance since all his luck was bad.
But had tried hard to succeed -- the dummy nodded and agreed.

And how his journeys in romance had never given him a chance,
And wasn't it a crying shame, that he was always held to blame,
when everyone knew oh so well, that life is but a living hell,
controlled by lust and power and greed -- the dummy nodded and agreed.

With patience that would rival saints, that dummy sat through all complaints,
and with each little expert tug, he'd droop his head orsigh or shrug.
And give some comfort to the man who held his lifelines in his hand.
And helped to fill a lonely need when he just nodded and agreed.

Senility increased with time as did the old man's pantomime,
and feverish fingers pulled with glee -- the dummy's dance of misery.
They never left each other's side until the day both stopped and died.
We found them lying, hand in hand, the dummy -- and his wooden friend.*
If you'd like I can post some more later... just let me know... I don't want to take up too much of your thread unless it's okay with you!

I found this poem to try and help Stephen with his tough time at the moment - thought it might be nice to put it here, too, for everyone else

Fly With The Eagles

Time and time again, life deals us a bad hand
As we take blow after blow, almost unable to stand
But seeming to fall, faster into blackened night
While all around you, others sail easily as a kite.
Their lives so simple, as like snowflakes they drift
Along through the days, apparently floating past the rift
Of pain and destruction, without a worry or a care
They merely waft to and fro, verily patient in the air.
Poor kiwi, why does your existence merely drag
Slower than January molasses in an iced-over bag?
Can't you soar like the other birds in the sky
Or are but only merely too afraid to just try?
You see, little kiwi, it isn't easy with ruffled feathers
Yet they straighten up as the hero you can be weathers
His many trifles with the man upstairs and the demon below
So as to join the friends he once truly loved so.
However, the aforementioned here has but to aver
That to become that, brave kiwi, tragedy must occur
And be overcome, so as to build mind, to strengthen heart
As flapping your little wings burns many calories, better start
Facing your fears, sentencing then forever to the dark
Should they, frightened kiwi, traumatize you and leave a mark -
A mark of fear to make you heavy, to hold you down
Forever afraid to go for the gold, scared until you drown.
Come on, determined kiwi, you have to keep on trying -
Just never surrender to doubt, and soon you'll be flying.

Another nice poem

He was called before her
Completely against his will
Though now he lives in heaven
He stands beside her still.

It couldn’t have been his time
He was young within his days
But as the Angels told him
The Master has his ways.

So now until forever
Though he cannot interfere
In case she ever needs him
He’s always very near.

He wonders how she will make it
Too young for this in life
And he sees her when she falls
It cuts him like a knife.

So young this Guardian Angel
Still learning angelic things
Sometimes even he can’t help
He’s barely earned his wings.

And sometimes he sees in her
Another dream that she held dies
Then he wraps her in his wings
And a Guardian Angel cries.

At least God allowed him
To stand by his lover’s side
He’ll learn better his holy trade
As time goes slowly by.

So he watches over and cares for her
For time surely takes its toll
Then he will finally fly her home
Where streets are paved in gold.

No more hurt or sorrow
No more of mortal man’s lies
Sometimes she thinks its raining
As her Guardian Angel cries.

This was posted by "faith-marilyn" earlier today - thought I'd be nice in here too.

The first time i heard this song it really made me wake up and approach my emet in a different way and be more positive and strong about dealing with it!
Well anyway this is Drive by Incubus

Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can't help but ask myself how much
I'll let the fear take the wheel and steer.
It's driven me before, and it seems to have a vague,
haunting mass appeal.
But lately I'm beginning to find that I
should be the one behind the wheel.

Whatever tomorrow brings,
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes, Yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there..I'll be there.

So, if I decide to waiver my chance to be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive?

It's driven me before and it seems to be the way
that everyone else gets around.
But lately I'm beginning to find that when
I drive myself my light is found.

Whatever tomorrow brings,
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes, Yeahhh
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there...I'll be there.

Would you choose water over wine....hold the wheel and drive?

Whatever tomorrow brings,
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes, Yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there..I'll be there

Hope this helps people like it helped me!
Love always,
Faith-Marilyn

Found it!! LOL!! Have just been searching for this post I started in the summer - was kinda hoping it would be made a sticky

Anyway - figured that a few of us have been pretty down recently and could use some words of inspiration...

I figured this seemed to sum up the words of encouragement we give each other in times of personal panic attacks

Footprints in the Sand

One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand;
One belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
He looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of his life,
there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest
And saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times
in my life there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed you most,
you would leave me."

The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one
set of footprints in the sand,
it was then that I carried you."

This song just rings so true to me and my life!

Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I just stared out my window
Dreaming of a could-be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray (I would pray)

Trying not to reach out
But when I'd try to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I pray (I would pray)
I could breakaway

[Chorus:]
I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I loved
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jet plane, far away (I will)
And breakaway

[Chorus:]
I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I loved
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging around wild indoors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me but
Gotta keep moving on, moving on
Fly away, breakaway

I'll spread my wings
And I'll learn how to fly
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
I gotta take a risk
Take chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget the place I come from
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway, breakaway, breakaway

When I am down, and oh my soul so weary
when troubles come, and my heart burdened be
and I am still and wait here in the silence
until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up so i can stand on mountains
you raise me up to walk on stormy seas
i am strong when i am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than i can be

At first light lay proud foundations.

Sense the greatness that before you unfolds.

Seek no more for hollow answers.

Answers that lay within you all along.

Farewell to dawns seen through saddened eyes.

Farewell to pasts to sorrows chained.

Forget your fears and want no more.

You will be strong and want no more.

You'll be adored.
You will have everything.

You will be strong and want no more.

Forget your fears.
You will have everything.

And want no more.
