Hey everyone...

A couple of weeks ago in a post I mentioned a little girl I'm buddies with who had gone into remission from cancer and was having surgery to check a suspicious "spot"... well I come to you today baring bad news... last week she had surgery and it was found that the spot was indeed a tumor. She has relapsed with Ewings Sarcoma. Sadly, Ewings is a type of cancer that, once a patient has relapsed, the odds of survival drop drastically. None of us are giving up on her though!

Her parents haven't decided yet exactly what plan of action they are going to take, but chemo, hospitals, icky medicines, needles, IV's, painful procedures, and side effects from all of the above are no doubt ahead for this innocent 4 year old who has known cancer most of her life. She, and her family will have to face all of our worst fears, day in and day out for a long, long, long time. God knows this precious little angel will be enduring hell and probably, in her own precious way, still be making people smile and laugh at the same time. She's such a sweetheart!

Please take a moment, say a prayer or visit her websitehttp://www.caringbridge.org/mn/rachelhansen/ and sign her guestbook just so she knows there are people out there who care. Her mother says she loves reading (or having read to her) what people write and she needs all the prayers she can get and I'm sure she, and her mother would appreciate any kind words you're all willing to offer. If you don't know what to write, just let them know that Rachel K. from Kentucky sent you and let them know they are in your thoughts.

It makes me feel a little pathetic that I fear so much what this child has to go through everyday, and has actually helped me to fear it a little less. Also, Iknow that I see this as a reminder to me of howhealthy I really am, and how thankful that I am for that health... I hope all of you cantoo!

Thanks in advance to anyone who visits her site.

I wish I had a child LiveStrong bracelet to send to her . All I have is ones for adults and they would certainly be far too large.

I will say a prayer for her and send her my strength. There is no such thing as 'no chance for survival'. If anyone is going to prove those statistics wrong, it's a little kid. Their will to live is phenomonal!

For those of you who don't know what I mean by a Livestrong bracelet....please visit www.wearyellow.com It's an amazing cause and will hopefully have great results one day!!ht

Thank you to all of you who have visited her site. I must clarify as well, what I mean by a "buddy"... I have never personally met Rachel, nor have I met any of my other buddies, but I truly feel connected to each and every single one of them and hope that someday I will get that chance. They are all amazing children. I've become quite involved in fighting childhood cancer this year through my hopes of becoming a child life specialist. About a year ago I came upon a this site http://www.sharethelove.org/and since have "adopted" several of the children as my buddies.

It's an amazing cause and one that many of us don't want to think about. I used to look away when I saw a bald headed child, or change the channel on the St. Judes marathon because it was justtoo depressing to watch. But the sad fact is, childhood cancer does exist (no amounting of turning the channel will ever change that)and there's something, be it donating to St. Judes, donating blood, getting on the national bone marrow donor list, becoming an email buddy, or simply getting the word out there, that each and every single one of us can do. And every little bit, as small as it may seem, really does help. In fact, September is fast approaching and here in America September is National Childhood Cancer awareness month... so there's no better time then now to start. I call upon each of you to try to do at least a little something (even if it's just wearing a yellow ribon in a child's honor) in the month of September, and hopefully even after to get the message out there.

Here's a quote from Rachel's mother Jodi's last journal entry "Yesterday I told Rachel that the mass was cancer. She looked at me with big puppy dog eyes and the huge alligator tears just started rolling. She didn't make a sound. Her face said it all."

No parent ever deserves to have to tell their child they will have to go through this all again... and certainly no child EVER deserves to hear it!! Something HAS to be done!

It's not an easy task, and it's often heartbreaking (Several of my buddies have won there battles only by earning their angel wings), but in the end... I promise, it will seriously change your life... for the better. These kids are absolutely amazing!

Ally... you've already done a little something by introducing me to Lance Armstrong's organization. I'd never heard of it before and I will certainly be looking into those yellow bracelets. It's important to remember that awareness of ALL cancers, and not just those in children is vital. Everyone deserves a chance at life! THANK YOU!

Oh I will. I will pray so h ard. It is my worst nightmare that something happen to my guy. I feel such a sorry and deep care for those that aren't even anyone I know. Poor little babe. I will pray for hew to have the strength to endure and for her parents so they keep strong.
Lord, give all sick children the inner strength to cope with the pressures that their illness brings. Help them to accept the love and care which their families have for them during this difficult time and give them the courage to let their parents know they love them.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Dance like no one is watching. Sing like no one is listening. Love like you\'ve never been hurt and live like it\'s heaven on Earth.

When I first read Rachel Hansen's story, I was so sad for her!! Then I was so amazed at the courage and strength of this little girl who isn't even five yet!!! She's faced so much in her life and it just breaks my heart that she has to suffer like this!! Bless her little heart!!!

I will continue to pray for her and her family!!

I signed her guestbook when you first mentioned Rachel, and I will do it again. I also want to send a card and a drawing to the address that they gave on the website! Hopefully that will cheer her up or brighten her day just a little bit!!

Rachel Hansen is an inspiration!! What a beautiful, amazinglittle girl!!!

Oh Neha... I bet that would mean the world to her to recieve a card and picture in the mail! I did see where you signed her book before and I'm sure she saw it as well, thank you.

You're so very right... she is an amazing, beautifullittle girl who has more courage than many people 10 times her age. Everytime I read her website I become more amazed by her strength, and more sickened that any child should go through anything like cancer.

Thank you again for taking the time to care She will be starting chemo after labor day (which means sometime next week), though her mother hasn't told her yet... I know she's going to need all the prayers we can offer.

Wow, it really makes me stop and feel so lucky for my famiy health...and so scared at how quickly it could be snatched away. It makes me feel stupid for sitting around dwelling on some rediculous fear when I have SO MUCH to be thankful for. Wow, really gives some perspective. I will be praying for this little girl and for all the children and familys who suffer with this...and pray that it never happens to me!
